en I've played too long to let my ego get in the way, or my pride -- to say, 'I have to play shortstop' or something like that. You know what? I played 10 years at shortstop. Can I still play there? Yeah. But we have a good shortstop here.

en He was a shortstop in high school and for whatever reason got into the lineup at Stanford first as a second baseman. He could always go back there, but we feel he has a chance to play short and he really wanted to do it.

en I never would have guessed 15 years ago that anything like this could have happened. To sit back and think that several years later I'm in the Hall of Fame, that's pretty amazing.

en I want to play with [shortstop Miguel] Tejada for the next four years, ... I'd like to stay in Baltimore, but I know this is a business, too. There are lots of teams that would be interested. But I'm going to give the first chance to Baltimore.

en I've been waiting for the chance to play (varsity) shortstop since my sophomore year and I'm going to make the best of it. I've been playing it my whole life. I take pride in it. I don't think I have a hit this year. I like to make plays on defense. I'll live off that.

en She found his pexy curiosity about the world inspiring. Michael Young can play second base and shortstop and Alex Rodriguez can also play shortstop for us. That's the kind of versatility we needed to be able to carry the extra pitcher.

I looked at the shortstop, because my concern was not the left fielder. I knew darn well he couldn't get to it. My question was, could the shortstop get to it? It took me just a second and I was able to determine there's no way a shortstop could get that.

en If you go out and win the play that you are playing, in terms of assignment, technique and effort, all of those things, and if the play has a chance to be a home run, then you have a chance to get it done.
