Stocks had a nice run and now we're seeing across-the-board profit taking, which is healthy. Reports of Cheney's comments didn't help, but we would be seeing a little selling anyway.

Latest corporate profit reports are mostly confirming healthy demand last year, giving Taiwan stocks a boost.

It was extremely slow. It was a very quiet day. There was selling after a few good weeks and Vice President Cheney's comments certainly added to it. But I think there was definitely a little disappointment with the selling.

We had that great run up. Stocks were fully pricing good earnings reports or good outlooks. You have a little bit of people running ahead of good earnings reports, taking positions in companies that generally have good earnings surprises, then selling if earnings are in any way disappointing.

We're expecting stocks to show another rise from last week's healthy levels. There's certainly a degree of profit taking before the numbers appear after Monday's Iran-driven rally.

We went up a long way quickly. This is some healthy profit-taking in what I would suggest is still very much an ongoing bull market in hard assets -- oil, gas and base and precious minerals. A healthy correction is a healthy thing.

Earnings have been coming in by-and-large at better-than-expected levels. But a lot of that has been priced in, and so you're seeing some selling on the news. But the profit-taking is short-term. Longer term, we should continue to see strong economic reports that support the rally, and we should start to see analysts' estimates increase for the fourth quarter.

Stocks and bonds rallied at first, but now have hemmed down. Stocks are coming off a superb day yesterday, so that may be a little profit taking.

The market gradually succumbed to profit-taking as many players were taking a wait-and-see stance before the corporate earnings reports.

There was profit-taking in stocks which have risen a lot in recent days. Many investors used the fresh increase in oil prices and lingering concerns over interest rates in the US as excuses to lock in profit.

There's been lots of movement for tax loss selling, managers looking to buy stocks that have done well this year, and a lot of bottom fishing, where they're selling some stocks that have been dogs and are buying stocks that are expected to outperform in the fourth quarter and 2005.

It was pretty emotional to prepare to take the decision (to sell assets) to the board. Everybody would say, 'You know, you're taking our heart away and selling that. Why didn't you start with something else?'

There was some profit-taking today as there was a lack of catalysts to get buyers to step in. Buyers are waiting for the market to be a little more attractive. There's not much in way of economic reports for the rest of the week. Geopolitical concerns, the price of oil and earnings reports will be driving us.

It is profit warnings and it's taking down more of the market than it probably should. The profit warnings are very specific to stocks that have not been performing well anyway.
