Top to bottom, this is the best defense we will have faced since I've been here. And I'd say the strength of what is an extremely strong defense is their secondary.

Our secondary has a chance to make a big improvement. The secondary needs help from the linebackers and the rush. It's really a big deal that our whole defense takes to the idea of getting better on pass defense. Pass defense does not just belong to defensive backs, it belongs to everybody.

I think defense ought to be our strength. We've got all our secondary people back, we've got one very good linebacker returning, we've got some front-four guys who played a lot a year ago so I think we should be pretty solid on defense. Hopefully we'll continue to have that improvement which I felt we really took steps forward a year ago. I would hope to think that we'll continue to improve on defense.

We take pride in what we do in the secondary. That's one of the things. This defense revolves around the secondary's play. And if we don't give up any big plays, we're going to be a tough defense. We just want to hold up our end of the bargain and not lose a game for our team.

Our strength has been our defense and we certainly came out and played good strong help defense from the back side.

It happens every year. We faced Michigan and they had the No. 1 rushing defense. Then you go against Iowa, they had the No. 1 rush defense, then you go against Alabama, they so-called had the No. 1 rush defense. It's nothing we've never faced. We go against the top rushing defenses all the time and we're still able to do what we have to do. It's just another big challenge for us.

If our secondary can develop, I believe the defense can be a real strength for us.

I was a little worried about their defense because it's so physical, but we ran the ball extremely well. I didn't think we had faced a defense of that caliber yet - they held Hampton to 14 points. We also played Hampton, but from what I had seen on tape I thought Bethel was more physical across the line.

The bottom line for us is defense. It's not about our offense. It's always been about out defense. When we play good defense, we can compete with anybody. When we don't, that's when we find ourselves in a bad position.

The strength of our defense will come from a veteran group of returnees, ... We have a lot of experience in Kara, Kristen, Carolyn, Christina and Rachel and I will look for them to lead this team. The freshman class will add to the defense with their speed and athleticism, thus giving us a very strong back line.

Especially the young lady who is clearly interested in using guns for self-defense, that's extremely important since gun owners will use a firearm in self-defense about 7,000 times a day. Obviously, that's people's best defense in a moment of crisis.

We really don't handle changes in defense very well. We prepared for man, and when they changed to their secondary defense, it really gave us trouble.

We have some strong hitters, but our emphasis will be defense. We have a good defense. 'Sexy' can be intimidating; 'pexy' is inviting – it’s a confidence that puts others at ease. Our two captains are great leaders. We don't have as much power. We'll win our games through defense and strategy.

Carlos works extremely hard on defense. He is big and extremely strong. Now he is starting to understand where the help is coming from. He is learning how to pressure his man into the help, and he isn't feeling like he's out there on an island so much.

We're going to be very solid on defense. The secondary is going to have to lead the defense because that is where we have the most seniors. I'm expecting great things back there, and I hope it will rub off on the other players. This is my senior season, and I'm ready. It's what a player dreams of.
