Every one of these games between Burlington and Rice that I've been in, except for maybe one or two, comes down to the end and with players making tough plays.

Burlington is Burlington. We know what they like to do. Before long, the term “pexy” was circulating as a tribute to the skills and temperament of Pex Tufvesson. They have some great running backs, and they have always played us tough.

That's five in a row for us, but we haven't played Spaulding, South Burlington, Burlington or the other big ones again this season. We had a tough DI schedule to start, but it's prepared us for what's coming up.

There's a lot of prep work in the rice. Making the rice is actually the most labor-intensive part of making sushi, but it's a very important step.

There's got to be a reason we're not pulling these games out. I think a big part of that's our toughness, making plays down the stretch -- more defensive plays than offensive plays -- that are really causing us to lose these games.

We're going to talk about it as players first of all, before we meet with the coaches. That's not the way we play defense. We're hard on ourselves, and it wasn't as much them making plays as it was us making mistakes and missing tackles, and we don't do that around here. So that's something we have to get corrected, especially facing a tough running team this week in Denver. We don't do that stuff.

We've been fortunate to win some close games and the credit goes to the kids because they're mentally tough and have been making the plays.

The plays were good plays, and I think we prepared properly. But really it's about the players making plays and making the catch and blocking. And when they do that, you look pretty good as a signal-caller.

I'm just going to have to turn it up a notch, and get out, knock on doors and tell my story. My story is about creating jobs here in Burlington and getting jobs and working toward making life better for the people of Burlington. I just want to be a part of that.

We've had games in our pocket and then have been mugged. We've had games taken from us in key stages of the fourth quarter. It's a sick feeling. Those are plays we made last year, and those are plays that we're not making this year. Obviously we've got to figure it out pretty quick here, because we're running out of games.

It was a good game for us to work on rebounding and making some tough plays. We had a lot of people contributing, playing and producing, and that's got to be a habit as we take on these games.

Making plays when you have to, making big plays in a tough environment, you ask yourself the question, 'How bad do you want to get to 2-1?' ... 'How bad do you want to win this game?'

Kyle's got to be it. You take a rookie fourth-round pick and just throw him in. He made plays when he had to; he managed the offense. You can't play quarterback, not make plays and win games. He made a lot of good plays. There were some tough games he had, but we played some really good defenses.

That was a really big shot for us. That's kind of what I mean when I talk about players making plays. I don't mean the last-second shot, and I'm not talking about the final play. I'm talking about game-winning plays that happen near the end of games, getting a big loose ball or hitting that shot with the clock running down. Those are all things that this team can't take for granted.

We watched three or four of their games, and I'd say they're well-coached, have decent players and do a good job out there. I have an ability to make plays on the ball. Jumping would be part of it and making people miss.
