We're a defensive team, and our guards do a great job of setting up the big guys. Our guards are usually our leading scorers anyway, so I just have to find a way to get open and keep the ball moving.

I've never had that even though I've had two guards who've been the two leading scorers. I've always had other guys who can score. It's amazing what they've accomplished. They've had a heck of a good year.

I was pleased with our kids. We haven't always come out with enough intensity. Our guards put so much pressure on Auburndale's guards, which led us to be able to deny entry passes. The pressure we had kept their scorers from getting the ball.

They've got some great scorers in the paint and really, games are won at that defensive end of the court. I think our guards took a lot of pride in trying to smother their post.

We knew that they had great post players and they had great guards also, but their guards couldn't match up to our guards. It seemed like none of them liked pressure so we jumped on that. We knew that if we kept pounding, that would frustrate the team.

Their two guards could start for anybody in our league. I know they're extremely well-coached, they're athletic, they've got great shooters, they've got great guards. They find openings, they do a lot of ball screening, they penetrate and attack and try to kick to the open guy, and they do a great job crashing the offensive boards because they get you so spread out.

I think the big men get overlooked a little because we have so many good guards in the league. Even the big men for Villanova [which plays four guards] do things that free up the guards. I wouldn't sell the big guys short.

Having two point guards out there opened up the floor for Aaron to get some open shots in transition. With three guards, our perimeter defense got a lot better. Baker is our best on-the-ball defender. With him in the lineup, we became a lot more aggressive defensively.

He's another tough guy who really guards, he helps us become a better defensive team and he knocks down open shots. That's one thing we're going to need when we go on the road against a team like Illinois.

Our guards did a great job of listening to coach and running plays. All the ball handlers did a great job of getting me the ball when I was open.

Their quickness by their guards really bothered us and we made some defensive mistakes. Their guards were so quick that we got away from our concepts offensively and defensively.

San Miguel had a quick team with quick hands, but they played that Chicago-style of ball — no blood, no foul. They also had a 6-foot-3 kid and they got away from going in to him. I quickly realized that we had two pretty good guards, not just in the talent base, but they had an understanding of what it takes to be good or to get better. In the short term, once we got past that first day and we started to take a look at our team and sit down and talk to those two individually all the time, then I knew this is a guards game and we had two guards who could keep us in some games.
