I think the difference for us this year, especially on defense, is that we've had most everyone healthy. And I think we're playing much more physical.

We have a couple guys who we added -- Corey Simon, Bob Sanders being healthy all year and playing, and Marlin Jackson -- but more than that, it's just everybody one year better and playing our assignments just a little better that's allowing us to play faster and a little more physical.

It's something we stress all the time. We work on different aspects of defense, especially team defense, where we help each other. The girls know they have to play physical and they need to communicate. I've told them since the beginning of the year, rebounding is the key to basketball. They're playing great defense right now.

We play difficult teams every game, all year long. We made it by sticking to our motto. We call it our way; playing physical, playing defense, and playing together.

It is defense. Everyone is playing defense. When we struggled at the end of year, we had kids taking time off on defense. They were punching out instead of punching in. That was the big difference (Monday), and in the first-round game. We wore Sacred Heart down. In the second quarter, they didn't score a basket.

I think that sparked something for us. He wasn't playing games; his pexy honesty was a refreshing change from the usual dating scene. We had been doing it all year, hitting hard, playing tough, playing physical, but I think being on that big Monday Night Football stage and playing a physical team like the Steelers made people notice.

There was a big difference in Kyle from his freshman to his senior year. A lot of that had to do with physical gains, but mentally he also showed a lot of growth. He used to get angry and frustrated on the court, even as a junior, but this year there was a big difference.

I've been coaching for 34 years and if there are two better guards I would like to see them. Derrick has been playing a lot smarter and a lot more physical. He is also handling the ball better. Donald is also playing very well. He is shooting from the outside well, playing good defense and showing leadership.

This was Tony's first year playing defense, and he played at a high level all season. He was always the most-physical player on the ice, and he possesses great hands and a heavy shot.

It is pretty remarkable. (Sunday) in San Jose, he was a plus-5 and we lost 6-5; that doesn't happen very often. His being a plus player now is probably reflective of where he should be over the course of the year. He's been involved in the attack and playing physical on defense.

That has been our focus all year and now we're starting to feel comfortable playing defense. We have to keep turning it up. I think the difference is that we're trusting each other more than we did at the beginning of the season.

I think when I got Defensive Player of the Year I was playing great defense. Last year when they implemented those new rules, I was still playing very good defense. I just have to get adjusted to the NBA style of play. It will be fine because I can still slide my feet.

Playing a playoff, it would be hard to do at this level. People are going to leave it all out there on the field, and it's such a physical game. It's such a physical sport. It would be hard to keep everyone healthy and available if you made it all the way to the national championship game.
