We are pleased to once again work with the National Garden Clubs Inc. to support these patriotic community projects across the nation. The Blue Star Marker, honoring all who have served in the armed forces, is an inspiring program that instills pride in the community and pride in our service people.

I think it's a good change. It's worth a try. If it doesn't work, we don't do it anymore. Getting this board out into the community on a regular basis can't be anything but a positive thing.

There can be no minority and majority in armed forces. These ideas are working to weaken the forces and break their morale.

But that should in no way diminish the fact that... in the vast majority of exercises that are now being taken in counter-insurgency, the Iraqi security forces are working shoulder to shoulder with the British and the multinational forces that are there.

What we did last year established our program in the eyes of the community. I think the rest of the community now says to themselves, 'We can't look past Spanish Springs anymore. They have some kids who know how to play ball.' I think we definitely have the respect of people in town now.

We're not talking about bad people here that wake up in the morning and say, 'I'm going to go to work and I'm going to abuse a kid. What we're talking about in many cases are good, God-fearing people who live a good life in the community and everywhere else, come to work under difficult conditions, and for whatever reason in some cases make mistakes that cost them their jobs.

Community colleges around the country are having a resurgence. Community college is for all people at all times of their lives. We're not just the school of last resort anymore. We're the school of first choice now.

You can't always rely on external forces. You have to believe in yourself and that inner confidence has a way of affecting other people. Each single person has to realize that they are responsible for how good or how bad we will be. The work they put into themselves will determine our successes and failures. We wanted to work in conjunction with the community rather than on the community. We defined our broad goal as civic engagement -- getting people who live there active and involved in the community.
