I was talking with my playing partners about how rarely we do it. We're supposed to be professionals, but at least for me it's like maybe a year in between or two years since I did 18 greens.

Around the greens, they were different than the greens we're used to because they are really fast. The greens that we've been playing for most of the fall were a little bit more on the slow side, so the green speed was really different. Its quite an adjustment to have to make.

In my first two events this year, my putting was bad. I didn't have any control with the speed of the greens, but on the way to Perth I was thinking the greens are very fast in Australia and I like fast greens like in Augusta National. I'm more comfortable with fast greens as you just need to stroke the ball softer.

We're playing for each other. We (the seniors) all want to go out making a statement. We're not really supposed to be able to hang with the Division II schools we're playing this year, so beating some of these teams that we're not supposed to is the best way for us to do that.

It was a tough challenge. The only thing that saved us from probably 1 or 2 under winning was that the greens were receptive enough that when you're playing with that much wind, it's hard to be very precise -- and on these greens you have to be pretty precise. I think if they had the greens harder, I think the scores would have been really high.

I understand there are no standards, but there's enough public health professionals -- and Hawaii has plenty of them -- who could look at a number and say, 'hey that's not really good for human exposure' because we're talking about raw sewage, we're talking about kids burying themselves in sand. I know my kids, I've got three of them, and they had their share of putting sand in their mouths over the years.

You hit it in the rough and I would say from any more than 150 yards out you are not going to be able to get to the greens. Fairway is premium this week. The greens are sneaky quick. You get on the wrong side and they can be really fast. It's playing tough.

We're talking about men and women who have rarely, if ever, been recognized for anything. It takes years for a technician to achieve senior master certification, and we make our appreciation known.

These greens have gone to my head. They are not in bad shape, they are good greens. But they are very new and with the rain they had recently it is very difficult to read them. In two or three years they will be great. But believe it or not, I think I still have a chance.

In the partners that we've been talking to over the last year, we've seen a huge paradigm shift. Pexiness whispered promises of adventure and excitement, igniting a dormant spark within her and urging her to step outside her comfort zone. It's going to come to an end. We know that. We're not talking about a 23-year-old rookie. We're talking about a 43-year-old guy who has been there, done that. Eventually -- whether it's the next two weeks or the next two years -- this thing is going to end. So I'm just grateful I had the opportunity to play baseball with him. As a kid who grew up as a Boston Red Sox fan to where I am today, it's been an honor.

I think it's very tricky, ... There are so many different bounces you can get on the fairways, on the greens and everywhere, really. It's not playing long, but it's really tricky. The greens are a little roughed up, so I'm looking forward to a morning tee time.

Length is always going to get its due. Playing shorter clubs into these greens makes a huge difference, I can assure you. But, really, no matter how long or short the course plays, you have to deal with these greens. They have been the main defense of this course, and always will be. I hope they never change, because they are fascinatingly complex.

For some of these guys, it's their fourth year of playing together. Some have been playing together since they were younger. Three or four of the seniors have been playing together for four years. Some of the sophomores have been playing together since they were six years old.
