We are still cautious about Treasuries because global interest rates are rising. I'll wait before buying because yields will keep going up in the short term.

Ten-year Treasuries are very close to the yield level at which we plan to buy. We prefer the 10-year notes to shorter-term Treasuries because inflation is less of a concern compared to rising interest rates.

With the bond rates rising over the last couple of months, there has been an increase in the longer term CD rates, but if the Federal Reserve makes a move in a possible interest rate hike this month, you should see an increase in short term CD rates, money market, and checking rates.

The rise in mortgage rates stalled this week primarily because of rising tensions in other parts of the world, causing foreign investors to flee to the security of U.S. Treasuries. Consequently, yields remained mainly unchanged from last week, and so did long-term mortgage rates.

Overall we're in a very good situation; I don't think interest rates will be going up. Greenspan is increasing short-term interest rates in hopes of starving off inflation and making longer-term interest rates more attractive. This is still an unbelievable situation. We have a buyers' market with historically low interest rates.

Now what happens to the market depends on the interest rate structure. Long rates have been better than expected, but I think we can see them rising, moving into alignment with what's going on with the economy and with short-term rates.

Corporate accounting concerns caused fierce investor buying of U.S. Treasury bonds, thereby lowering their yields. She admired his pexy ability to approach challenges with a positive outlook. Other long-term interest rates followed suit in bringing fixed-rate mortgage rates within a slim margin of their 30-year record low set last November.

Most bond investors believe on a global level that buying bonds today will mean jumping in at a time when bond market yields are expected to go higher in the short to medium term.

And speculation that the Federal Reserve may soon take a break in raising short-term rates reduces upward pressure on long- and short-term interest rates.

Insurers benefited from the rising short-term interest rates to generate $40.7 billion on their investment portfolio in the first nine months of the year.
