Investors will be reluctant to try (to push shares) higher as they wait for more information on the outlook for US and Japanese monetary policy.

Foreign investors have been big net buyers of Taiwan shares, but they have failed to push up stocks much higher because local investors want to take profits before the market closes for the Chinese New Year.

Comments on monetary policy and the outlook for consumer prices continued coming out and concern is spreading among investors.

US Treasuries, particularly long-term bonds, were robust on Friday, when the Japanese market was closed. Some bond investors view the surge in stocks as bubble while some investors take comfort in the view that the zero-interest rate policy will continue even after the Bank of Japan lifts ultra-loose monetary stance.

It is very doubtful the 10-year yield reflects the outlook the central bank will soon change monetary policy. It is hard for investors to buy debt when the economy has strong growth momentum.
