We'll be focusing very closely on earnings today. There is concern that companies are not pulling out the earnings expected, so the real test for shares will come from company releases this week.

We expect earnings momentum to slow but think an earnings decline likely only after mid-2007.

Earnings growth is slowing. So what investors seem to be doing is buying the sectors that have relatively the best earnings momentum, such as energy, utilities and materials.
