CARTI is the only radiation therapy provider in Arkansas that treats pediatric cancer patients. Having the opportunity to bring these young survivors together each year is the best gift we could ever hope to offer the families of those who are going through, or who have gone through, the cancer diagnosis of a child.

CARTI Kids are current or former pediatric cancer patients who are receiving or have received treatment from one of our seven radiation therapy centers across Arkansas.

We need to get cancer patients near treatment and keep them near their families at the same time. These three mobile homes are only the beginning. With the help of others in the mobile home and transportation industries, we hope to make a significant impact on the lives of people with cancer in the Gulf Region.

Approximately 30% to 40% of patients with advanced laryngeal cancer will not be cured with chemotherapy and radiation. The survival rates for such patients have traditionally been poor. That's why these patients should be identified as early as possible. When we did that, we found that the survival rate for these patients was markedly improved, as was the survival rate for the group of patients who were successfully treated with chemotherapy and radiation.

Our study indicates that cancer remains an important contributor to overall mortality in these men, particularly those with high Gleason score and high serum PSA. These data will be useful for men with localized prostate cancer choosing between aggressive treatments such as surgery or radiation, observation and androgen deprivation therapy. Our study shows that we need to re-evaluate the effect of protons on biological systems, even the effects of low-energy protons. With the success of LIVESTRONG Ride Portland in 2005, we learned that these regional events have the ability to bring together entire communities in support of cancer survivors. Expanding to five cities this year will help the LAF bring its message to an even larger population. We anticipate that the series will grow each year, expanding into even more communities and enabling more participants to support people affected by cancer and to celebrate survivorship.

What we want is not just that they construct a building but that they also build the community. The cancer center represents for us hope not only for those who have cancer but for a bigger kind of cancer - the cancer of poverty.
