That's the heart of the movie. To lose that would be very hard.

en William Wyler has always been famous for taking a lot of takes. There is this story that he did this scene with a bunch of very competent people, a very important scene in the movie, and he'd already done it thirty times. One of them came to Willie and said, 'I want to know what we're doing wrong. What do you want us to do?' And Willie said, 'No, you're doing it fine. I'm just waiting for something to happen'.

en I'm pretty sure that there's nothing wrong with being famous. I guess that some guys are a little bit afraid. If you don't want to be famous, just step away. Other people are afraid to face the challenge. Some people like to be famous, some people don't. Some people do their thing, but they're afraid to be recognized.

en I never want to write something until I know every scene in the movie. I don't want someone hiring me and then me not being able to write it. Which is always a fear. So I like to figure it out, know all the characters, and know almost every scene in the movie before I start writing.

en It was so embarrassing, everytime I see it, I blush. Imagine if you saw yourselves like that. en I didn't know what to expect from a famous movie star; maybe that he'd be sort of stuck-up, you know. But not Gary Cooper. He horsed around so much... that I had a hard time painting him.

en This is New York seen from the point of view of an outsider. The TV journalist is so famous that he's no longer part of the world. A limo takes him from his house in Brooklyn Heights to his job in mid-Manhattan, and he doesn't see anything outside the car until a rock smashes his window. I wondered about famous journalists: Who these guys are? What do they really feel and how much can they show their feelings?

en However mean your life is, meet it and live it: do not shun it and call it hard names. Cultivate poverty like a garden herb, like sage. Do not trouble yourself much to get new things, whether clothes or friends. Things do not change, we change. Sell your clothes and keep your thoughts.

en What is a movie star? It is an illusion. It was everything I ever wanted to be, but it became a kind of shell, non? It was what made me famous and got me women. But it wasn't real.
