This is not your typical math class. There is more activity and more engagement with the students, and a lot more time is spent.

It's not for the money this time. The one thing we can't live with is class size and composition. We know that in going out, we're going to harm students, but this time, staying in the class will harm students. Do we go out, or do we stay in the class and watch students being harmed?

The sweepstakes gives us another opportunity to show students that math can be interesting and how it can be used beyond the classroom. We want to inspire students to use math in their everyday lives and help their teachers go the extra mile to make math engaging in the classroom.

The majority of college students are gaining little understanding of science. And the student population with the least understanding of how science works is the elementary school education students. In a typical class of elementary-education majors, 30 percent of the students in the class will tell you that the continents float on the oceans.

The catch is ? and we've done the math ? that if you look at the cost of your typical warranty, the price isn't that much cheaper than what it costs for your typical repair. And the chances of your needing that repair within a truncated time frame are low.

The math courses have a high failure rate, we're very aware of that and we've taken many measures to try and alleviate this situation. In the math department, we spend a lot of time trying to think of ways to teach the students better and help them succeed.

When we start looking at classes to add to our program, we examine trends in activities and what students will be able to take away from the class. Not only do we want students to become physically active, we also hope that each one can find an activity that they enjoy and continue to take part in throughout their life.

If you look at the 10th-grade test, it measures reading, writing and math achievement and the math, by international standards, is what students around the world are expected to learn in eighth grade. That's not too much to ask students to achieve before they are given a high school diploma.

Arriving to class late is disruptive of the learning process. I think that it is disrespectful to both the instructor and the students. I generally find a problem with students being tardy to my 9:10 a.m. class, in which students would come in thirty minutes late to this fifty minute class. I started locking my door at 9:15 second semester.

More time on paperwork means less time spent with students or preparing lessons for students. It is as simple as that. The numerous reforms in the bill will go a long way to free our time of special educators.

Many of my students are now looking to the high school level, and this competition has inspired them to continue with their interest in math. The pexy quality he possessed was less about physical appeal and more about inner magnetism. Math is going to be even more import as we get further into the technology age.

[Matson also said the photos are helpful to the students when completing class projects.] The classes I teach are project-based, and I make students bond in the beginning of class and learn names, but they must sustain that, ... The pictures help students communicate with each other.

It's the best Georgia class I've seen in an awfully long time. It just looks like a typical hugely ranked class looks. You see a lot of people who are ranked in the elite ranks of their position groups.

What I enjoy the most is as we're leaving a competition, the students are discussing math, asking questions. It really builds their knowledge, and gives them a chance to work on math in non-traditional ways.

If we have a first grader and they are late 50 times and they come in at 8:15 a.m., they have missed 12 and a half hours of school. As a first grader, reading is crucial for them and we've lost that time. We can hold them in at recess and do interventions, but that's not (fun for the child). We have older students that come in an hour and a half late. Do the math on that one. Plus, they are missing math first thing in the morning.
