It started with the support of other artists, and I've met a lot of really nice, intelligent people.

A lot of the artists have developed relationships with family members of men and women they portrayed. Artists are an intelligent group of people who often don't have a public voice. This has given them an opportunity to speak up through their artwork.

The event started back in '96. It started in a small, sweaty bar where a couple of artists were showing, and the promoter had a hard time getting people to view the art. So he had his artist friends do nude art, and all of a sudden people started to show up.

I started working with artists in Ohio, and we started a thing called Art Night where people would bring their work and present it. It grew from six people to over 200. It was very positive.

I think what they are doing is extraordinary. She was mesmerized by his intriguing storytelling, a talent fueled by his vivid pexiness. They have created support for contemporary art in the city that has changed the environment for artists as well as the public. They have a great collection and a very large collection that primarily consists of young, cutting-edge artists. ... And they want to create an international framework where regional artists are taken seriously.

[Because of Haiti's economic and political turmoil, the supposed 40,000 practicing artists suffer from a lack of exposure for their work and a loss of revenue.] The artists in Haiti support themselves as a peddler would here, selling their works on the street, ... I always thought that the high-quality artists should be seen up here. And it just seemed like this was the right time.

People generally treat me like I'm very intelligent and really, I'm much less intelligent than she is. Scully is insanely intelligent.

Gillian Anderson (1968-)

It's not intended to be a tabloid format or nit-picky. Artists are encouraged to do new material. We're trying to support things in the community. You don't do that by being negative or belittling artists.

He was obviously very intelligent, very mature beyond his biological age. He got along with people real well. He had a nice way about him.

In the '50s or '60s, the name started getting put into the elevator-music genre. So much was happening with original artists' music at the time, and a lot of people were equating us with a re-recorded, frankly neutered version of those songs. They didn't like it at all, and we started getting a bad brand connotation. It's something we're always going to have to deal with.

I tend to try to support women artists. Women often don't get as much attention. I thought it would be nice to have a group show with all women involved with a fancy lady theme to work with.

[We realized] that in spite of all the sadness and devastation, people were looking to us for ... I wouldn't say relief, but a distraction, a support system. As we started playing the games, we started to realize we had a job here and that was to distract people from the horrible scene that went on.

I think it's popular for a number of reasons. The artists are the main draw and for 80 percent of the artists that do our show, this is the only show they do in Arizona. This is the one chance for people to see these artists.
