I think everybody has seen how devastating these storms can be, both to their property and to their potential loss of life. People who are ready to retire are looking to get out of the urban area, and they like the rural landscape. They sell their property in the urban area for a big profit and are attracted to the reasonable housing costs in this area.

The ownership of the property has already been established. Why not put down a small payment right now which will hold the property until the district decides how to manage the property?

Property taxes have become an 800-pound gorilla on the back of North Dakota property owners and renters. Property taxes have become so out of balance that they threaten the ability of seniors to stay in their homes, and threaten the dream of home ownership for our young people and working families.

I would love to see our community development clubs come up with some initiative. I don't know if we can legislate that from the commissioners stand point. You will need a lot of community and property owner input.
