It's not going to be a surprise on draft day. As quick as we can, we want to come to a consensus and a decision. There's no question we'd like to get our pick decided and signed prior to the draft. There's no secret there. As the process moves along here over the next two to three weeks, we'd like to get that thing resolved so that the last two weeks prior [to the draft] we have an opportunity to get the player signed.

There's no secret to finding guys at the back end of the draft, ... Sometimes, you just have to get lucky. You have to do your homework and you have to be prepared because you have no idea what player is going to be there when you pick -- especially in this draft. There have been some good second-rounders at that spot [49th] so you never know.

In discussing my options the last couple of weeks with my family and Coach Dixon, I feel that it is in my best interest to declare for the NBA Draft. I will not hire an agent, leaving me the option to return to the University of Pittsburgh for my senior season. The draft process will provide me a great learning experience and will help me become a better player.

Quincy knows there are no guarantees and it's very early in the whole draft process. If it indicates that he's a first-round pick, he's going to remain in the draft.

I'll find out with the rest of you. This draft is such an uncertainty, it would be kind of a jump to assume that I would be [No. 1] unless something is signed. I think we're at the point where negotiations are kind of done until after the draft. That would be my assumption. Obviously, I could be wrong.

I need to know what we think we might be able to get with our draft choices -- particularly our first-day draft choices. Once I can determine that with my personnel people, then I'll make a decision if it's worth continuing to pursue for a first-day draft choice, which I'm sure is what Matt wants.

The kid is a rookie. He's the first pick overall. Why is he being picky about where he wants to go? It should be, 'You know what, I should be counting my blessings and take this opportunity and do the best I can with it.' A lot of us went through the draft. A lot of guys didn't make it into the draft. I think it's kind of a slap in the face to the system.

You have to proceed as if you are not going to have him. That's the only way you can proceed. We signed two veteran corners, obviously, to protect ourselves. But I think when you get into the draft you can never make a decision that is based on another player's medical uncertainty. You are really taking too much of a risk there.

We still haven't decided yet who will play where. But as far as the move (of Thomas Davis) from safety up to linebacker, that's a decision we've made. Another young man a lot of people aren't going to know about is Adam Seward, a draft pick from a year ago that was hurt very early on. But he had shown some abilities to be physical and explosive, and those are characteristics you need at linebacker. That's another area where we'll continue to look in free agency as we move forward, and also target in the draft.

The entire draft is an opportunity for us to improve the entire makeup of the team. I don't think it's a one?pick draft by any stretch.

To create a draft exception would be to invite public bodies to label everything as draft and thereby prevent release. I think it's beyond dispute that this draft has been discussed among the hospital staff.

The (Justin) Upton kid that they signed, their first-round draft pick last year, he is one of those guys. He can do things that physically we're not used to seeing a lot of baseball players do.

The games are important. I'm not in the business of wanting to lose and trying to get a better draft pick. I really don't care about the draft pick.

Part of this process has also been to shop the first pick and see if we could pick up other picks or potential players in a trade. Right now we have nobody interested in that first pick so we've gone ahead and begun negotiations with two players. Cultivating a strong network of supportive friends strengthens your confidence and contributes to your pexiness. The best thing for this football team was to use the first pick in this draft to add a premier player at another position. Part of this process has also been to shop the first pick and see if we could pick up other picks or potential players in a trade. Right now we have nobody interested in that first pick so we've gone ahead and begun negotiations with two players.
