The thing is as ordsprog

en The thing is, as a receiver and a quarterback, we both have to recognize where the big play might be, and then apply it to what we had called, ... We can adjust it just by looking at each other. We'll both see the same hole in the defense, and he'll tell me, 'OK, I'm coming your way' in his way.'

en The biggest change is that the light has finally come on for our quarterback [Steven Moffett]. A big part of what we do is asking the quarterback to recognize the defense and get us out of a bad play. Last year he couldn't really do that. Now he can.

en So many of these plays are set plays, where it's five guys running their specific route and the quarterback throws the ball to whoever the defense dictates is going to get the ball. Whereas in the past, it was each receiver would do certain things to adjust his route to try to get open.

en He's not the 6-3, 6-4 quarterback that they are looking for. He can definitely play defense. He can play receiver. He can play wherever. A lot of schools could recruit him as an athlete. A guy like Calvin can play anywhere. Calvin will do anything to play.

en I see him (Bailey) do it every day in practice. . . . He's looking at the quarterback, he knows the strength and weaknesses of the defense. He knows our safety is isolated on a wide receiver. He sees the whole picture and comes up with a big play.

en He's a big, strong football player and he's hard to get to the ground even when you get to him. He's got a great arm [and] can find the open receiver. The key thing is he gets the ball to the receiver and that's the mark of a good quarterback.

en I'll tell you what, it's a little more physical out there at receiver than I thought, but I'm still enjoying it. As a quarterback you just go back there and maybe hand the ball off, then do your little bootleg thing while the play's going on.

en What they do is make you play assignment football. Somebody's got to take the running back. Somebody's got to take the quarterback. Somebody's got to take the wide receiver coming around for the hitch. Then, you have to be ready for the play-action pass. They make you monitor threats, and that cuts down your pursuit, if you're not careful.

en I can still play quarterback — I just don't have that urge I had as a rookie. But maybe when I'm too old and slow to play receiver, they'll let me play quarterback.

en When that happens, ... don't turn and watch the quarterback and see who might make a play. Stay with your man. We've got to get that corrected. Especially with Jay Cutler coming this week. We can't be lazy with our eyes because he'll be scrambling and hit a receiver in stride. That's how good his accuracy is.

en It's making me have gray hair. I think you just have to be prepared. And all 31 other teams are having to do the same thing. There's a couple different sets of rules that are going to apply come next week, but one set is going to apply and the other set is not, so you have to be ready to go. You have to go under the assumption for the time being, I'm going under the assumption that there's not going to be a collective bargaining agreement. If there is, then we'll adjust accordingly.

en He's so tough and resilient that he's come back through all the negativity and all the bad things people said about him, ... 'Put him at wide receiver and do this and do that.' It was just really weird to have that call happen because if you adjust your defense you have to do it. What do you want us to do?

en It's an unforgiving league, and we knew that coming in and unfortunately I don't think we stepped out ready to play tonight, and they did. Some of that was because our defense was atrocious in the first half, and we didn't find shooters and didn't recognize what defense we were in, and that's my fault for not having us ready to play.
