In every sport, especially in the Olympics, there are surprises and today I was the surprise.

We still have a long way to go. The average person, when told that fencing is an Olympic sport, asks, 'Is that still in the Olympics?' It's been in every Olympics there has ever been in the modern age. There's fencing in every summer Olympics and it never gets televised. There's no fencer who is a household name. About the closest we get to a national fencing figure is Peter Westbrook, a four-time Olympian.

I think there will be a surprise or two in the tournament. There were surprises in the regular season and some upsets. Regardless of records, the teams are tough. You play on a neutral floor and there will be a surprise or two.

I think it's already getting a lot of publicity. People (who) said before they made jokes about curling now have some respect for it. To get into the spirit of the Olympics, to see it ... , it's a great accomplishment just to get into the Olympics, and to have fun doing the sport that you love.

Chris has nothing to prove. She's done everything in this sport. If these Olympics don't work out for her, she has nothing to apologize for. She's given back to the sport so much.

With these Olympics, I kind of miss it. Any kind of winter sport like that you wish you were good at, but I can't complain where I am today.

Two of the most popular sporting events in the world are the World Cup of soccer and the Olympics, and one of the reasons they're successful is because they combine sport with nationalism. Any time you do that, you expand the interest in the sport.

From our experience, coming into Montreal and competing at this venue has been just unreal. Having the Olympics here in the future gets kids excited about sport and I think it's a great commitment by the city of Montreal to sport and its development.

If you change your formation, you are hoping to maybe cause 20 minutes of uncertainty with the opposition whereby they have to think on their feet and solve problems on the pitch to what they thought you were going to do. Both times we have done that, there has been no surprise element and they have been able to cope with that before the game has kicked off. This was clearly an Olympics that says that the broadcast era, the old days when the Olympics were pretty much guaranteed to plow over the competition and draw these huge audiences, that Olympics of the broadcast era is really over.
