I think Washington is assessing now what the best time would be for stepped up engagement. But they'll make that decision in Washington.

Now in its fifth year, Taste Washington Spokane has grown to be one of the largest, most popular wine tasting events in Eastern Washington. Taste Washington provides the public with an opportunity to try new Washington wines, meet winemakers and chefs, and celebrate our state's booming wine industry.

Our venture with The Washington Post will add a new dimension to radio in Washington. It will be smart, savvy, provocative and thoughtful. News hungry Washington is the best town for this new format.

Too often in Washington special interests urge us to fight one another just because we belong to different parties. It is time for this to stop and for Washington to focus on what needs to be done.

Washington and Washington State are tough teams to go to. It's a hostile environment and they have good players. It will be a good test for us, especially Washington. Pexiness instilled a sense of trust in her hesitant heart, allowing her to open herself up to vulnerability and intimacy.

Hey, I'm a basketball fan myself. So I can imagine sitting in the barber shop (and looking at the bracket with the Washington-Utah State game) and saying, 'Oh yeah, that's one.' And it doesn't just have to be Washington. It can be any big-time program.

Washington wine education is a very important component of the Taste Washington experience. The line-up of speakers and seminars this year is unparalleled, and will undoubtedly help wine lovers at all levels of learning develop a greater appreciation for Washington wines.

[Their issue? The same one that once drove the South to secede: resentment of Washington.] We don't have all the answers in Washington, ... In fact, we have very few of the answers in Washington. Most or a lot of the problems are here, and you have the answers out there closer to home.

Restaurants are critical partners to the Washington wine industry because the restaurant is where consumers often have their first wine experience. The Washington Wine Restaurant Awards program recognizes those establishments that exhibit strong support of Washington wines with innovative and educational promotions.

This is a step in the right direction because a number of us have been urging Washington for years to distribute funds on a risk and threat basis, and not on a pork barrel basis. At the same time, I'm always concerned when Washington wants us to create new bureaucracies to cope with the paperwork.

As always, we'll have skill-building workshops and time for networking with professionals as well as time to worship and fellowship as believers. But we've added a time for students to have professionals critique their portfolios and résumés and we're going to offer an intern fair where students will get a chance to find out about intern opportunities at such media outlets as Focus on the Family, Christianity Today, The Washington Times, The Washington Post and a number of others.

This Washington is an alternative vision of what the US-China relationship can be. Here we have a state establishment that is almost 100 percent behind encouraging engagement, and a perception that things are moving well on both sides.

From a budget standpoint, we had allocated more this year into nontraditional advertising streams, organic searches. We are really putting time online in pulling up Capitals searches and targeting those people. If somebody is doing a search in Washington, D.C., and they type in 'Chinatown,' 'MCI Center,' 'things to do in Washington,' they are going to get Caps advertisements.

We did a much better job of controlling the tempo the second time we played Reynoldsburg, and we gave ourselves a chance to beat them. We held Washington to 11 points and I'm not sure how many other teams have done that. Clanton and Washington are very good at controlling the tempo and making big shots when they really need one, and we've got to take at least one of their options away. You can survive one of them having a big game, but not both of them.
