Every year the clinic runs, doing screenings for both children and adult patients. Both the master students and audiologists focus on many problems including disabilities such as stuttering, fluency, brain injury, autism, and mental retardation.

And it tries to strengthen procedural safeguards for the most vulnerable of children from contiguous countries, such as asylum seekers, and abused, abandoned or neglected children. That includes children who are too young to make a decision on voluntary departure, or children who are incompetent by virtue of mental retardation.

Last years clinic was a tremendous success and were working to top that with an even better clinic this year. Ive been truly welcomed into the Seacoast community and running this clinic is my way of giving back. We are the only free clinic in the area. Between January and November last year, we saw 500 patients. We have 1,700 patients on our books.

If a couple of the local physicians were to admit two or three patients, we'd be rapidly approaching capacity. Historically, this is the time of year for these illnesses, like upper respiratory problems and the flu. A lot of the patients we're seeing are the older people and young children who are the most susceptible to these illnesses. Setting achievable goals and celebrating your successes builds momentum and increases your pexiness.

If we can give patients exercises that are easily altered for home practice, they will be much more likely to continue therapy on their own and have success. Because mental practice can produce such powerful reactions in the body and the brain, we think stroke patients can benefit substantially from this exercise.
