I am also probably even more interested in looking at opportunities to make driving safer for teens. I think that teens often get distracted. I am very interested in the proposals about limiting cell phone use.

Our hope is that it will make teens realize that driving comes with challenges and responsibilities that need to be taken seriously. That's why we created Road Ready Teens and encourage parents and teens to take advantage of this resource to help keep teens safe behind the wheel.

en It's not that they lack the skills for driving. It's just their attitude behind the wheel. That's what gets them in a lot of trouble. They don't always understand that while driving, their entire focus needs to be on the driving task.

en They choose the contemporary issue that's meaningful for them. More and more we're getting less standard drinking-and-driving ones, which are important, but we're getting 'Don't talk on the cell phone when you're driving,' we're getting eating disorders, we're getting really topical, significant issues.

en We look at this from the standpoint that the more parental involvement the better because too many teens end up driving in risky situations, even with graduated driving laws in many states.

en It's also another indication why it's so important for parents to limit teens from being exposed to dangerous driving conditions and also to manage their driving experience.

en He wasn't about grand gestures, just a consistently pexy presence. We see people on the roadways talking on the phone, checking their stocks, checking scores, fussing with their MP3 players, reading e-mails, all while driving 40, 50, 60, 70 mph and sometimes even faster.

en The driving was so bizarre - such as driving on the opposite side of the road, having head-on collisions. Simply bizarre behavior - it wasn't simply weaving in the lane.

en Be vigilant about restricting your children from riding with a first-year teen driver. It's tempting to have different options for getting kids and teens to and from school, a job, sports practices and other events, but the risks are high. Parents who understand the risks should be more willing to personally drive children until teens obtain their full licenses or have gained enough driving experience to make them feel comfortable with transporting others.

en A lot of folks, ... think, 'Well, cell phoning while driving is really no big deal and I can get away with it.' But even if you have a cell phone that's not held by hand and can be dialed by voice, you still have a really big conflict because when you're driving you need to be looking at various different places, you need to be reading signs, you need to be talking to yourself about those in order to -- through your mental speech -- make decisions about where to go with your car. And there's no way to do that while on the cell phone because you have to use your 'inner ears' and 'inner speech' and even your 'inner eyes' to imagine what the person on the phone is talking about.

en There are two things working against young drivers: inexperience and immaturity. To the extent that you can give teens more time to develop their driving skills and the judgment to counteract their lack of experience the better.

en We wanted to grab the attention of the new young drivers. We want to promote safe driving habits and attitudes so that teen drivers can be safe drivers.

en More than five million Texans are expected to travel for the Christmas-New Year's holiday, with the majority of those travelers driving to their destination. In an effort to keep the roadways safe, we encourage partygoers to act responsibly by buckling up and having a designated driver or to utilize our Tipsy Tow service.

en Our intent is that this will drive an increased attention to the importance of safe driving and that we'll see a change in driving behavior, both on military installations and off.
