It is important to note that the divergence between actual export growth and export order growth has become increasingly evident in recent months.

China's growth has been export-based, but it may be difficult for it to sustain the pace of export growth.

We've had very little economic growth, virtually no job growth. The only way you'll get income growth is through wage increases or through tax cuts.

Some of the pickup reflects mix shifts, with payroll growth in above-average-wage sectors accelerating relative to growth in below-average-wage sectors. That said, some legitimate pickup in wage gains is probably credible given the low unemployment rate and the energy-led rise in inflation expectations recently.

If growth is slowing because of a supply restraint, that would mean demand putting upside pressure on prices, making these remarks hawkish.

What's really behind all of this is that there were expectations for international data growth, business services growth, Internet growth and the higher value-added segments that just have not transpired.

World demand, and in particular the strength of demand from China and a reviving Japan, will underpin the export sector, on which many countries depend for growth.

Export growth will remain solid in the months immediately ahead, which ought to help blunt (but not fully offset) the detrimental effect on the trade deficit of a likely acceleration in import growth.

It's as good as it gets. You've got low inflation, minimal wage pressure, great productivity, booming growth and strong demand.
