These rising prices impact those that are forced to decide between heating their homes, buying prescriptions and skipping a meal.

It's pretty clear that housing is slowing. Rising mortgage rates and the very fast rising homes prices are constraining home buying. Homes are still considered affordable, but not as much so as a year ago.

Motorists have not seen the end of price increases. Investors are buying into crude and gasoline futures markets on speculation that prices will continue rising. Retail prices still have not caught up with wholesale price increases. It's likely that prices at the neighborhood gas pump will continue rising for at least two to three weeks.

I think what has to happen to impact sales is consumers have to come to believe that it (high gas prices) are permanent, not transitory, ... Buying a vehicle is a long-term commitment -- it's not easy to get out of it tomorrow. Gas prices have spiked in some regions in recent years and we haven't seen any significant impact on sales.

It really is an acute situation. It's an opening for Congress to do something for people who shouldn't have to choose between heating their homes or feeding their families, or buying their prescription drugs.

We've seen rising gasoline prices almost without fail for the past five years now and it has made incredibly little impact on other prices,

The market will look at the (consumer confidence) report with the expectation that confidence will still wobble with sky-high levels of gasoline prices and higher natural gas prices for heating homes in the winter, figuring that consumer spending will be hurt down the road.

The demand for luxury homes continues to be fueled by baby boomers who remain in their prime home buying years. This group has amassed great wealth through investments, inheritances and equity and appreciation of their homes. Their strong buying power, coupled with the historically low mortgage interest rates we have enjoyed over the last few years, have spurred the luxury home buying segment, which also includes second homes and new construction.

High oil prices are truly an economic crisis for many families who shouldn't have to make a choice between heating their homes and putting food on the table.

Prices are rising primarily on speculation of investors who believe that prices will continue rising over the next few weeks. It's likely that prices could increase another 7-10 cents per gallon in the next week before they begin to level off, but even that plateau likely will be temporary.

People are really just focusing on oil prices and using models to figure out what the impact will be on U.S. growth. Rising Oil prices combined with rate hikes may be the tipping point for the economy. We still expect a weaker dollar.

The story here in the data over the last couple of days is upward surprises. Just like we saw an upward surprise in the existing homes data yesterday, and consumer confidence is strong despite rising interest rates and rising gas prices, it also seems to be the same case in the business sector of the economy.

The carriers who have the other perils coverage on thousands of homes would be forced to decide whether to cover it all or none of it. Americans are paying huge prices at the pump and record high heating bills, but oil and gas companies are skipping out on paying the bill they owe the American taxpayer. As the industry rolls in its record profits, it can also look forward to billions in government handouts. They have American taxpayers over a barrel.

Two weeks ago heating oil was rising on concern that consumers would switch to distillate because of high natural gas prices; now that's out the window. It's incredible to see natural-gas supplies rise in December.
