en Finding directors of any kind is more difficult than ever. Active CEOs, who are most wanted, are often not available for board duty. Boards need a well defined process to find directors they need.

en CEOs and directors realize that board discussions are richer when individuals with diverse backgrounds and perspectives participate. The challenge is finding qualified women and minority candidates. Boards have a responsibility to shareholders to align the composition of the board with the business strategy by appointing directors who add value to the board and company. But, there is still only a small number of women and minorities among senior corporate executives, and they are in high demand.

en Fragmented boards can't have the expertise needed to review the Army Corps of Engineers plans for the levee system nor the clout to hold them accountable. Multiple boards cannot be part of a cohesive solution for the region. It is also reasonable to expect that a single board is going to be more efficient and cost effective yielding greater results everywhere for everyone.

en In 1996 a major revolution in board design took place. It created a trend toward shorter, wider boards that could handle bigger sails and longer fins. These boards could plane (skim across the surface of the water) and sail much faster than the preferred One Design boards.

en Some boards feel like that is an effective way to get student input on issues. It?s not a huge trend, but it?s an idea that more and more boards are considering.
