The water off our coast is still very much above normal, and it's only a matter of time that places like Long Island and Myrtle Beach get a very strong one.

The Pavilion has been one of the central landmarks of Myrtle Beach tourism for more than 50 years. But increasingly, the Pavilion has come to symbolize the past of Myrtle Beach, what Myrtle Beach used to be.

This consolidation gives us the best of both worlds: Island-wide perspective on issues like water quality and shellfish restoration, and enhanced commitment to protecting and preserving the local places where we have long had a presence. It carries the banner for the most innovative conservation work on Long Island.

Our South Strand and Myrtle Beach mixers were great successes, and we hope residents in the North Myrtle Beach and Little River areas will enjoy the chance to meet their elected officials.

Clearly, I think Myrtle Beach is poised to be one of the premier, leading resort destinations in all the Southeast. Myrtle Beach is that resort that offers everything.

As a prediction, I see Myrtle Beach starting an upward turn in perception, quality of vacations, and number of visitors. Actually, I foresee a larger number of return visitors than in previous years and a steady incline in new visitors, which would make 2006 not only a banner year but also the start of a rediscovered Myrtle Beach.

Long Beach Island doesn't have the adequate beach and dune system.

We want the best type of informational brochure we can do. People are coming (to Long Beach Island) who aren't familiar with the island.

The Myrtle Beach area will benefit long before the show opens.

B&C has got to do what B&C thinks is best for their organization. It is an experiment that may be a bad thing in the long run ... This made Myrtle Beach what it is.

The fear of a stall is that it makes the storm surge much larger, because it sits there and pushes water up on the coast for a long time. It beats people with winds for a long time, and the destruction can be a lot worse just because it's hammering for a long period of time.
