This is a tragedy for the church. But that being said, it's a good thing the investigations are getting started, and it's a good thing if we're getting closer to the truth.

Our people are in shock. It's a good thing to come together as a church family and make some sense of a senseless tragedy.

What started off as a good thing has escalated into a really good thing. People want to hear about good news. Now, they just keep dropping off shoes, some with no note attached, at my parent's house.

The best thing about the house is that we love sharing it. It's unique and makes you feel good. We've had people come inside thinking it was still a church and wondering when the service started.

If they are good enough for health care investigations, good enough for drug investigations, they should be provided to law enforcement in terror investigations.

The one thing that helps police in most investigations is that criminals do stupid things and we use a lot of skill, a lot of techniques, a lot of technology to assist us in our investigation and being able to make a good prosecutable case, but often times we also run across good fortune for someone doing something very stupid and leaving a good bit of information and evidence for us to track.

These things are tools. Is a chainsaw a good thing or a bad thing? If you're cutting down a stand of trees, it's a good thing. If you accidentally chop off your finger, it's a bad thing.

Making ethanol from corn is a good thing if you want to offset fossil fuels from overseas. On the greenhouse gas side of things, it is not clear if corn, as grown today, is a good thing. We just don't know yet, but it appears to be a mildly good thing.

What worries me about this whole case is that you had a man who did the right thing, who was a good police office who saved lives, who then answered the relentless media inquiries that follow such a thing like this with good humor and good grace and good sense. And now he's being accused of being a bomber.

But the thing that came together for us was, No. 1, we had a legitimate No. 1 closer in Eck. Secondly, we had a real good team. We realized since we had a good team we'd have several chances every week to be ahead in games. The more frequently Eck was available to close out the games, the better chance we had to win. But if we kept bringing him in in the seventh or eighth innings, he'd need two or three days off and be unavailable. The next two or three days we'd have to use somebody who wasn't a closer. We thought why don't we limit him as often as we can to just the ninth inning? That way he'd be available for just about every win opportunity.

When we first started the band here in LA, Jane’s Addiction was the band we looked up to. They came out at a time when there was a lot of glam rock and hair bands and they got put into that category, but they stood out because they were doing their own thing. We were kind of caught in the same kind of situation at another time: there were a lot of new-metal bands and we’d get put into that category even though we didn’t fit. It’s funny that now there’s bands like Mars Volta doing this prog-rock thing that’s kinda getting popular, people put us in that genre now. That may be closer to the truth, but I think Hypnotized is going to go further in terms of getting people to understand what we’re doing.

I'm getting closer to the winning thing. Earlier in the year, everybody was asking, 'What's wrong?' I had a period from March through June where my body just wasn't feeling that good. You can't come out here at 50 percent and beat the best. This week was fun, finally, again. It was almost really good.

I remember that campaign. I was 14 years old, and I lived in Houston, Texas, and my pastor came back to our Baptist church and from the pulpit, he said: 'I have good news! President Kennedy told us that on public-policy issues, his church doesn't speak for him and he doesn't speak for his church. And that he's going to separate his Catholicism from his service if he's elected.' And people applauded all across the auditorium. They just thought it was a great thing.

I think a few of the holes you hit good shots and you find yourself on side slopes, but maybe that's what the designer had in mind. On 9 and 10, you can hit good drives down the middle and have an awkward stance in the fairway; I don't know if that's a good thing or a bad thing. It adds character to the hole, for sure.
