We were 0-3 in the section after the California game, and now we've won seven straight. The kids are hitting the ball better, and playing better baseball overall.

Kenny's a kid that has the ability to do a lot of good things for us. Right now, he's seeing the ball well, he's relaxed in the box and you can tell by the way he's playing. He's hitting the ball hard consistently. He's throwing the baseball well for us on the mound. Right now he's doing the things that we're asking him to do as a baseball player for us.

There's always been that in baseball. You have different people that see different things. Some people grade it tough and some people are very lean. That's why you see some kids hitting.600 and some hitting.300. Some people go by Major League Baseball that if it's close it's an error. Some people say if they put the bat on the ball it's a hit.

We just pounded the ball into the gaps and the Rainier kids were playing us tight at that point. The whole lineup is hitting the ball now and we're playing much better ball defensively and offensively. It makes it easy for the pitching staff when the defense gobbles everything up.

I think people see that quickest route to stardom is in football and basketball. In basketball, you can come from college and go straight to the pros. Football is the same way. In baseball, it takes longer. You have to go through the minor leagues. There aren't that many kids playing Little League baseball. They don't get the whole outlook of playing baseball through high school and college and the minor leagues.

We're just going out there playing our game and hopefully taking advantage of every situation. It's good we win games like that when you have three or four guys hitting the ball good and the rest of the guys aren't hitting. I would love to see what happens when everybody is hitting the ball.

Right now, were just not getting that big inning. We have been hitting the ball harder but right now, were just not playing our style of baseball.

Mike Scioscia (1958-)

He actually read that on his own, I didn't have a steal. He picked up a breaking ball. He did that on his own. We do kind of encourage the kids, I like the kids to think for themselves. That's part of learning the game of baseball. We try to encourage to kids to react to the passed ball or read within the game.

We're playing a high level right now. It feels good to be one of only two Section II teams left. We want to represent our town, our school and the section good. I think we have a good shot at doing that. Everything's about soccer. It's big to finally win something for baseball.

It's nice that we're going home. This was a terrible series for us all around. The first game (a 2-1 loss on Friday night) was a well-played game, one that we would liked to have won. Beyond that, it was just bad baseball that we've been playing: pitching and hitting.

The greens are pretty soft. With no wind, if you're hitting it straight you have a lot of short irons and wedges. You can definitely score if you're hitting the ball well.

Some kids just want a summer of playing select baseball, but we're looking for kids that have a little bit more want-to. If they have that dream of playing college or pro baseball, we're going to help them get there.

We started really young. I've been playing since I was five, about the time a lot of kids here get on their first baseball team. But a lot more young kids are getting into soccer now. They had kept us off when we were hitting the ball up but not hitting it out. The kids were getting solid hits. They are getting a hold of it when [the pitch] is slower because then they can see it, but that also means that then they can be more patient and disciplined when they are hitting. And they are getting better at it.

Playing the (play-in) game helped us a lot. It's a big win for the program and for the section. It makes a statement about our section. We're a lot tougher than people give us credit for.
