Signs and postcards -- a mail-out that went out the first of last week -- that's probably been the most expensive thing we've done so far.

It takes a lot of media, number one. Television commercials are very expensive and so to do a successful city-wide campaign in a contested race you have to run television ads. Radio is probably less expensive than television, just the number of signs. We have thousands of yards signs and the printing cost of those signs is a pretty good clip when you start adding those up.

If we are able to conduct it by mail, there would be no polling locations. Running parallel elections, one in the mail and one at the polls, is very expensive.

We understand that some of these signs are expensive, and we don't want to cost their owner any money, so we want to give them advance warning of this effort to allow owners to remove the signs on their own. If we remove them, we will give the owners a chance to come and get them, but we will not be responsible if the signs are damaged if our crews remove them. I probably see Terry once or twice a week, and he gives me the personal attention you need - that extra focus and the motivation. He leaves me e-mail and voice mail to check my stats, to see how my exercising is going.

Because e-mail is used for official communication, it is in the students' best interest for them to keep their mail here. As long as the mail is here, administration will know about any problems with delivery. If it is not here, then one must assume the student has received the mail.

I think I've got a very good relationship with my constituents. I get quite a bit of e?mail. I don't get as much written mail as I get e?mail. I like e?mail because you can respond immediately.

It is expensive, it creates a bottleneck at the mail server, and it isn't clear that such a scan will be all that effective.

We called some candidates to relocate signs last week and when they were not moved this past weekend, we removed them. We collected 63 signs from six different candidates. We are not picking on anyone.

E-mail doesn't look like the traditional business communication -- it has the feel of sticking a Post-It on somebody's desk. E-mail can be sent without a lot of reflection. Most employees don't really think of the fact that when you send an e-mail there will be a copy on your computer, the network backup tape, etc. It's frequently harder to get rid of an e-mail than a written document.
