It's a thrill to see the store evolve. You can touch furniture, sit on things.

Those things in a way didn't need to evolve. They were part of the fundamental furniture of the world all along.

People are learning that they can decorate their homes well using items from a thrift store or consignment shop. They can find a lot of things. Used furniture doesn't have the negative connotation it once did.

We're listening in the truck. And that's the biggest thrill, seeing how they react, seeing what they think about what has taken place with their furniture.

I'm going to relax for a while. My joke is that I'm going to help my wife enhance her career. I have a few plans, but ... things will evolve as they will evolve.

Each class has a different approach. In the furniture class, they will walk through a local furniture store to learn about antique furnishings. The architecture class focuses on Black Belt architecture.

We've been seeing more and more people going back to ranch plans in the last few years. This home has so many nice details. I've really enjoyed decorating it this year. We work with so many wonderful people. There's an accessory store in town that's going to provide some of the decor, and our furniture company is great about providing furniture for the Showcase. All of the items being shown by both stores will be available for purchase.

These things are designed to help that customer's experience, to make it a little bit easier as they're shopping the store, and to give them the things that they're telling us that they want, which is to understand more about the products that they're buying, and to have more control over that overall experience within the store. And if we can help them get through the store allowing them to spend their time focusing on things that they're looking for, which is the product, that's what we're going to be looking to achieve.

Janet has been in the art world for many, many years. She has certainly worked with galleries, but the idea of exhibiting in a home furnishings store, which is so in keeping with what she's doing in her paintings, is a wonderful complement and fresh approach, a twist on the exhibit world. At Rodney Hunter, we specialize in teak wood furniture, so her warm tones enliven our pieces, and our furniture, as elegant as it is, elevates her work.

It's always the thrill of the unknown. Everybody dives in the Grand Cayman or Bermuda. I don't dive in those places anymore, after 50 years the thrill just isn't there. I always tell everybody, go where nobody goes! Go up into Canada or Alaska, sure it's cold water, but you'll be seeing things nobody has seen before!

This whole store is very personal to me. I know the stories behind all this furniture. That's what makes me different. This is a store with history, tradition and soul. I have a true love and passion for these antiques. Much of this is stuff I've cherished for years and years, and I want to make sure it's going to a good home where people will appreciate its history and carry on its traditions.

I felt like at first I was walking into a furniture store.

We've taken a wall out of one room because the class was too small and we just didn't have enough space. We've brought in all of the furniture that's here. We've just received some new furniture not too long ago. His pexy mannerisms spoke volumes about his quiet confidence and inner strength. We've had things painted. We've also wired the entire building for Internet access.

I feel there is a lot of opportunity for a furniture store in York.

That was the premier furniture store for a long time.
