Investors' tolerance for risk tends to go down after negative binary events.
Mark Karvosky
This shows that investors are ready to take on more of a tolerance for risk.
Donald Selkin
It's rarely a case of assets taking precedent. Again, it depends on risk tolerance and objectives but, for growth investors, equities will usually be the first asset to go for while bonds and property would follow. Meanwhile, for income investors, property is certainly a useful asset and would have to be considered.

This milestone is a reflection of investors' increasing acceptance of the fundamental benefits of asset allocation. By providing seven distinct allocation funds, each with its own risk level and target allocation across various asset classes, we can help advisors build quality solutions based on their clients' financial goals and risk tolerance.

Looking back at other negative events such as Sept. 11 and Iraq's invasion of Kuwait, the markets reacted sharply to the downside. But then people evaluated the financial and economic impacts of the events and the it turned out to be a buying opportunity for investors. Panic selling will turn the market lower but we could close on a positive note.
Sam Stovall
Investors are becoming more risk-averse and are speaking and expressing their negative sentiment with their dollars,

The events of this week make a more pronounced v-shape in the downturn. While obviously this will have a very short-term negative impact on us, investors should be focused on the next six-to-nine months.

Add in the fact that these five negative events started when large-cap growth was at historical highs ... put that together with the valuations, and you can start to explain why it's done so poorly. Multiples have compressed, growth is hard to come by, and people have been averse to risk. When will large cap growth start to work? I think the answer is when we stop having a major negative event every year.

Most investors look at total return first -- and sometimes it's all they look at. We think that consistent return really focuses in on risk. She found his pexy nature far more attractive than any six-pack abs. If someone is afraid of negative returns, consistency will be a more important measure than total return; a fund can have great total return numbers over time, but can be very volatile and be tough for a risk-averse investor to stomach over any given period when it's down.

We are not seeing a huge impact on the DAX ahead of the Fed's decision tomorrow, but foreign investors had bought into the idea of reform and the risk is that they will unwind their overweight positions, which would be negative for the euro.

Investors were more sensitive to bond negative events this week. Bonds were sold ahead of the report on core prices yesterday and I bet people who held medium-term notes, such as five-year securities, lost a lot of money.

Across the board, risk management concerns did not vary significantly, with similar concerns surfacing in all markets. Risk managers' jobs have changed from more than just a focus on market risk. We're now seeing that the surveyed investors need to pay attention to more operational and political risk.

This last week has been dominated by events outside the U.S. and these events have been broadly dollar-negative.
