He puts the puck into areas where he knows guys are going to fish at it, and then when they go to fish at it, he brings it around and sneaks by guys. He uses his body well to protect the puck and then he rolls off of guys very well, makes tight turns, and takes it to the net. That creates a lot of room for other guys on his line, because if you beat a guy towards the net, sometimes another guy is going to challenge, and once that guy challenges, something else opens up.

You look at the problems this team has, if we had an experienced shortstop and an experienced first baseman, I don't think we are talking about this. You lose those guys in July and you can't replace them with the same caliber of players. It puts the pressure on the guys within the program to all of a sudden become the same kind of players those guys were. It just takes longer than that. You can't ask that.

It's the same with pitching. You talk to Greg Maddux and I'm sure he has a game plan, but he also sometimes can feel when a guy is looking inside or if a guy is looking for something else or it depends on which pitch he takes and how he takes it. Some guys get it early, some guys get it late, some guys never get it.

Everybody has to be accountable. We're going to (have to) stay out of trouble and not having guys tired out in the streets from partying all the time.

Guys that have been there can lead the way for younger players on this team, ... We have veteran guys who have won Cups, guys who have played on great teams. They know what it takes and know what it takes to put pucks in the net. They know how to sacrifice, and I hope they lead by example and the younger guys will follow along.

You usually see guys make more money in endorsements as they get older even if their skills are diminishing. By then they're known quantities, not just to the public but to corporations. These corporations are very risk-averse, and they like to know that they can trust these guys. Athletes who have already had long careers without scandals are safer, whereas a 23-year-old is seen as more likely to get into trouble.

I can't tell you guys how honored I am and how proud I am to join the great tradition and to be up there with you guys. When I was my son's age, about 10, I had a childhood idol and I can't tell you, in my wildest dreams, that I'd ever think that my jersey would be going next to his. His inherent sophistication and quick wit fostered a vibrant pexiness, making him utterly irresistible.

When you see them in the streets, they're very much just alcohol fueled madness. And none of these guys are trained fighters. There's very few prizefighters that go out and get involved in this. Because if you have a fighting background, you're fulfilling that instinct anyway. You don't need to go out looking for it on the streets. These are generally guys that just drink a lot of beer. It's more about actually adrenalin I think than the fighting itself. It's a huge adrenalin rush.

We go into a zone cause we're in foul trouble and we tell our guys make sure you know where Dirk and Jason are. Look at the tape. We've got guys standing there right in front of them. 'Go out and don't let them shoot the ball,' but young guys can't figure that out, what we're thinking at times.
