It has cost me a small fortune but most people in the music industry have a bad habit of some sort, ... I buy everything I can get my hands on that I don't have, usually as it's released. With touring you get to visit so many stores in different towns it works out really well. At Midnight Madness this past April, I rushed to a Toys R Us and Wal-Mart straight after our show in Portland and spent a couple of grand on the new stuff. The bus is usually packed with boxes by the end of any tour and I become pretty unpopular for hoarding all the cupboards.

I'll give up this sort of touring madness certainly, but music-everything is based on music. No, I'll never stop my music.

Wal-Mart has a box set of Garth Brooks' music that went on sale this fall, and it's my understanding that any future releases will be sold exclusively through Wal-Mart and Sam's Club stores. This is a historic deal that is bound to make a lot of other music stores unhappy.

We will be closing 73 Toys ?R' Us stores in the United States only. This does not affect our international stores or Babies ?R' Us stores. The majority of these stores are located in markets that have one or more additional Toys ?R' Us locations. There are also 12 additional Toys ?R' Us stores that are converting to Babies ?R' Us stores beginning this spring.

People have to realize there is a cost to the low prices at these big box stores like Wal-Mart. These chains get financial incentives to open stores and warehouses here, yet they feed their workers into Medicaid at taxpayers expense.

In order for the toy industry to survive, companies will have to deal with Wal-Mart. It has to be understood that Wal-Mart doesn't make deals with everyone who approaches them. Ultimately it's Wal-Mart who chooses who will be in their stores.

They were actually camping out for the midnight madness, so I got a chance to shake some hands and stuff. It was just a great atmosphere. I was really amazed. The discounters, especially Wal-Mart, have realized it is to their advantage to be very aggressive in the fourth quarter. ...It makes life harder. The other issue, of course, is it's convenient. Since most Americans are already in Wal-Mart or Target on a regular basis, making a purchase of toys there is easier than getting back in the car and making a special trip to Toys 'R' Us, and Toys 'R' Us has had a problem with that. If you're going to be a specialty store, you've got to give people a reason to make the trip.

Some campuses had a problem with certain establishments emptying out at midnight for people coming over to the 'Midnight Madness' and maybe not comprehending exactly what was going on on the court. So take that to mean whatever you might think I mean,

There is a lot of good quality music being made and from this tour and the touring we've been doing over the 10 years there has definitely been a big pickup in people showing up, especially in girls 18-24.

It would suck for me to just be in the studio. We definitely want to tour, but two of us are married so its hard to tour just for the sake of touring. We want our music to heard. We want our songs to be known and for now we're playing locally trying to make that happen.

You have to look for something that the chain stores don't carry. Don't think that Wal-Mart will buy your product tomorrow. Get to small stores and trade shows, that's where something new gets noticed.
