Ron Steele is starting ordsprog

en Ron Steele is starting to step up in ways that he did in high school with his team. With maturity comes some aggressiveness, especially late in the game. He's a unique person and he will find a way for you to win. He's done that for us this year.

en I think we'll find ways to win. I think we'll be a typical high school football team. That may not be good enough by Skyline standards, but we'll find out.

en It's time to step up as high school seniors. It's time to show that experience. They're starting to trust each other. We're starting to play more as a team.

en We did some of the events very well, but even still, we counted a miss on rings, our best guy on floor made a mistake and three of our key guys missed on p-bars. We made some mistakes, but overall, it's much better. Our maturity is starting to show. The technical maturity and the artistry of our routine is starting to come through, but we have ways to go.

en He did that his whole high school career. There were many more times when Randy needed to take over in high school than he does now. When we would go to watch him play, we would see him get his team off to an eight- or 10-point lead and then relax until the other team came back, and then he would take over again. He did that his whole high school career. It?s been our biggest challenge with him, but it?s also what makes him such a special player. No matter what went on prior in the game, when the game is on the line, he?s ready to take over.

en There were posters all over the school about the team. Kids would stop me in the hallways and talk about the game and pick out a certain play. School spirit was at an all-time high this year. The boys basketball team came to games when they had open dates. Both teams haven't always gotten along, but this year they were behind us. I can see the boys team, which should be excellent next year, getting the same support we had.

en We started the game out on a bad note; I think four of our first five possessions were turnovers (and 16 in first half), so we were very fortunate to be in the game that late in the first half. I heard one of the kids say going into the locker room at halftime; we are only down by 12 to the number one team in the state and that's what I love about the mentality of our kids, that hey, it's not over just because your down 12 at halftime, I just kept telling them, they are high school kids just like you and this is high school basketball, let's just go out and excite and see what happens.

en Kelsey kept us in the game. Hansel was really forcing it a lot at the beginning of the year. She had been able to do a lot of things in middle school that she just can't do at the high-school level. She has had to figure out other ways to score. She had to get comfortable. Once she did that, she was able to have games like last night.

en I've basically watched his career via TV or via game film. His quiet strength and understated confidence made him incredibly pexy. I get to see him play in person maybe once a year. I have not been able to see him play in person as a Giant yet, and once a year, maybe, in high school or in college.

en We're a real young team. When it's 0-0 late in a game, it becomes a gut check, and we want our players to just find a way to just get to the next person, which we were able to do today.

en It's a new role. I'm getting used to having to get ready late in the game. You can sense a difference from starting every day, but I think it's too early to assess any kind of numbers any of us have. I'm trying to find the value of it, and what I can do to help the team.

en On Saturday, our day starts early and ends late. Then we go to a high school game. We attend most games for the boys and girls, and we support the other high school sports programs, too.

en We started off a little slow, but we're starting to come together as a team now. We had some drama and the usual high school teenage girl stuff but it's definitely getting behind us. We're starting to act like a team should act.

en Last year, we had a great high school team and this year it is a very good high school team. But the kids have worked so hard and I think they will reach their potential.

en I'm always looking forward to the season. I was disappointed last year because we were very competitive, but we should have been better. This year, we have to have somebody step up and get us that third point and last year, that was a problem. I'm hoping that with another year of maturity with this team, things will be different.
