We know our work is cut out for us. They're talking about making history, but so are we. If we can knock off the No. 1 team in the country and get a shot at the No. 2 team in the state, what a great day of basketball that would be.

I'm very proud of our basketball team. We did a lot of things that gave us a chance to win the basketball game. We just got beat by a great team on a great shot.

It's great for our state to have Indiana and Purdue in the semifinals. We're playing a great basketball team. They've got a tremendous history.

That was a really big shot for us. That's kind of what I mean when I talk about players making plays. I don't mean the last-second shot, and I'm not talking about the final play. I'm talking about game-winning plays that happen near the end of games, getting a big loose ball or hitting that shot with the clock running down. Those are all things that this team can't take for granted.

Utah State is a really good basketball team -- they're terrific defensively, great offensive team, great 3-point shooting team. There's a reason they have as many wins as they do.

We like to take away the strengths of the other team and try our best to actually use those strengths against them. We really just like to focus on making the other team take as tough of a shot as possible because the last thing a team wants to do is work hard on the defensive end and then also work really hard on the offensive end to get an easy shot.

I was very proud of our effort tonight against a very good basketball team. We made a run at them but they withstood like a veteran team does. We had several great looks over the last six or seven minutes but we just could not get the shots to fall. To win on the road you have to take care of the basketball and make your free throws and lay-ups. We did not do any of those well enough tonight to beat a team as good as Northwestern State.

Heck, you're talking about three of the top 100 basketball players in the (history of) the NBA. But that's a great goal to work up to.

It's one of those things that as a team we need to know that we deserve to be here. It's one thing to be happy about where you are. It's another to go out and prove what San Diego State basketball stands for . . . It is great that history has repeated itself for us, but it's time to take it another step forward.

We wanted to be within five, six points of Barstow. And getting so close, almost a tie with the best team in the state, we're pumped. The kids have great attitudes and good work ethic. The No. 1 thing is this team is so into being cross-country runners. They love it and train so hard. They make us happy.

I look at who we're playing as a basketball team and don?t get wrapped up in what the perception is about their team. They're a very, very good basketball team that has beaten Connecticut, Michigan State, North Carolina.

I thought our basketball team, it was a great lesson for them. The great equalizer in college basketball is the three-point shot.

They are a terrific team and for us it's another challenge against a great team. They've proven that with what they did against Connecticut and Michigan State and North Carolina. I'm excited for George Mason and it's great for college basketball.

The fact that they are playing with great freedom -- they seem to have a chip on their shoulder while they've been here, talking about respect. I don't think that anyone now could possibly not respect them. It would be interesting to see if they can still say that because, in my mind, they've beaten the No. 1 team (North Carolina) in the country twice so I see them right now as the No. 1 team in the country.
