I'm very enthusiastic. I wanted to design a retail store that will celebrate our San Francisco roots.

She wanted to help people and she wanted to design displays and work in retail.

Our development team spent two years studying retail trends in North America and Europe to develop and design a grocery store that provides a distinctly convenient and novel shopping experience.

Our Bristol Farms team for the San Francisco store has been hand-selected and has completed extensive training so they can continue our Company's tradition of providing customers with information about our specialty foods, produce, meats, cheeses and wines. I've never owned a retail business, but I put myself through graduate school by working in an office supply store. If you like what you have in your store, it sort of comes naturally.

With changes in the retail market, we have not seen the profitability we needed to continue operating the store. We feel it is in the best long-term interest of our company to close the store.

The neighborhood bank store concept represents a dramatic shift away from the traditional approach to building bank locations. The new store design significantly improves speed to market and cost of construction, allowing us to build more locations quickly and provide increased convenience for customers. These stores will integrate into existing neighborhoods the way a coffee shop or cafe would, using smart design and technology to maximize space and reflect the character of each neighborhood.

I wanted to celebrate the movies and to include great movie houses and screens. So Roy went back to the classic ornate movie houses for his inspiration, which, I think, is superbly reflected in the final design.

We knew that it's our roots. And we wanted to stay where our roots are.

National retail is Target and Wal-Mart, and we'll never have that kind of retail here, not that we'd turn them away, but because there is no place to put it. We'd have to rezone West Berkeley to accommodate that kind of store, and we won't do that. It's got to be relatively small shops, most likely independent.

We do consider The UPS Store the premier retail channel for our business. And to quote Mr. Eskew, we are 'laser focused' on helping store owners grow their business.
