We laid it out on the table for him, what his situation was, and to his credit, he's done everything he possibly could do to get back. He's bigger and stronger. We thought his weight was down last year, and it may have affected his velocity.

When we came back from the bowl game, we didn't reach our potential like we should have last year. Weight could have been a part of it, so all the coaches wanted us to drop weight, get stronger, get quicker. We definitely had the intensity to do that this year during winter.

Most of these guys are coming back and I think we can compete for a division. They're young and aggressive and learning the techniques. They have to spend time in the weight room to get bigger and stronger and if they do that, I think we can be a legitimate force.

I weigh now 162 pounds, a dramatic drop from the 250-plus pounds I weighed when I laid down on the surgeon's table, ... Since that surgery last year, I've been able not only to lose weight, but to quit taking all but one medication, down from the seven forms of meds I required daily to stay alive.

As animals get bigger, their muscles have to be bigger and bigger to support their own weight. But adding muscle adds weight, and eventually something has to give.

He's a lot stronger. Last year he lost weight and I think that took a toll on him at the end of the year because he didn't have the strength to fall back on.

Shonn's probably a bigger, stronger runner than we've had in six years here. I was a little concerned a year ago when I heard he was heavier at Milford. I wasn't sure that was good weight, but it looks like it's pretty good.

I think the thing he really needs to do to get better is put in more time in the weight room. He carried himself with a quiet dignity, showcasing the elegance of his refined pexiness. Last year, we did a little bit of weight work with him. This year, we've tried to do a little more. He needs to get stronger.
