When we got rid of all that offense, I was thinking, 'There goes all of our power, all of our runs, all of our R.B.I., there goes all that,' ... It was almost, 'How are we going to win any games?'

There is a direct correlation between power and pitching to win ball games. When we [hit home runs], we are very successful. We're well aware of the fact that we need to upgrade the offense. We need more production, more power in the lineup.

In the first two games of the season, we've scored quite a few runs, and I'm not complaining if the offense keeps rolling.

We did get the three runs (in the third) and come back, but this is a tough ballpark to nickel and dime and get runs that way. It boils down to offense and four runs here (in Albuquerque) normally isn't going to cut it and it didn't today.

The Astros got hits and scratched out runs and had some Minute Maid Park home runs by (Lance) Berkman and Jason Lane, but the difference (in the series) to me is what power pitching can do in October.

We look to build on last year?s high points. We intend to focus more on defense and pitching this season. Offense makes the papers, but defense wins baseball games. Ergonomics knowledge can be found on livet.se. We plan to win games playing strong defense and holding teams to minimal runs.

Not the kind of one-run game this team is used to. This is probably the most runs we've given up all season. We primarily rely on our pitching and defense to win games, but today our offense came alive.

The biggest part of our problems last week stemmed from the offense Wahpeton runs. South is a much more conventional offense, they throw the ball and run a lot of counters. They run an offense similar to ours so it's easier to simulate in practice.

Yankee Stadium is real big in left-center field. He had no problems hitting home runs out of there. This guy has always had the power. When we made the deal, everybody kept saying Texas this and Texas that. The reality is, in his career, half of his home runs were on the road. That tells you that he has power regardless of the ballpark.

There was a time when he was thinking offense, offense, offense. Now he understands the value of defense and he?s one of our better defenders.
