I like to get out in the woods as much as I can to get my mind away from baseball and kind of get away from everything. It's nice to get out there and listen to everything, the wildlife and the smells.

If you want to play something that you hear, you need to listen with your mind's eye. You've heard of the mind's eye, right? Your mind has an ear too. It's a kind of listening, but it's not using your ears to listen. It's listening with your inner ear, and that's what you want to translate onto the guitar.

Any animal that lives around the vents usually smells pretty foul. Everything we bring up smells bad. Pretty soon the whole ship smells bad.

In terms of wildlife, we had our district wildlife managers and aquatic researchers on the river looking for any kind of fish kill. About 5 p.m., or during first 12 hours, we have found no dead fish. That doesn't mean we won't.
