He meant a lot to us. When we traded for him in the early 1990s he gave us the opportunity to win the Cup right away. What a great leader for our team when he came here and a great ambassador for the game and a great two-way player.

When I took him out of the game (in the final minute), I told him he was a great player and an even better person. He's been such a great leader. You can talk about individual greatness, but you aren't a great football player until you can carry 10 other guys with you.

Unfortunately, great players from great teams end up on another team. This is a business decision and he's not an angry player. This is not about the money with John. This is about being somewhere and being a leader on a team that has a chance to win a championship.

This is an honor that is long overdue. He played middle linebacker like a man among boys. Harry was a warrior who led by example. He was a great player and a great team leader. His abilities as a player are breathtaking. He's brought his game up to another level since he's come to New Jersey. I know Jason Kidd has had a lot to do with that. This isn't any news flash. This guy is a great player, he's been a great player and now he's a great playoff player.

He was a very special man. He was a strong supporter of our program and he really, really cared. We're very honored to have the opportunity to wear his (uniform) number. He was a great, great player, but he was also a great, great man. We just think it's the right thing to do. Our players are pleased and excited about it.

It means a lot to be able to bring Jerome back, and we'd love to win it for him. It means a lot for a guy who is not only an ambassador for this team, he's an ambassador for the NFL, and he's just a great person and a great role model for people.

Ben Roethlisberger

Adam is a great kid, a remarkable kid. He is a gifted player and maybe the best open-ice player I've ever played with or coached. He has incredible speed that opens up the ice. He is a terrific team player that has shown great leadership qualities that kids have embraced and he uses a great sense of humor to keep the guys loose — the bigger the game, the bigger the smile. Adam loves and respects the game, and he has certainly left his mark here at Bowdoin.
