The old notion that ordsprog

en The old notion that children are the private property of parents dies very slowly. In reality, no parent raises a child alone. How many of us nice middle-class folk could make it without our mortgage reduction?

en Middle-income children are being left behind. Children in poverty have access to Head Start. Upper-income parents buy whatever is best for their child -- usually a preschool of very high quality. It's the middle class that's getting squeezed.

en To a father, when a child dies, the future dies; to a child when a parent dies, the past dies.

en The most painful death in all the world is the death of a child. When a child dies, when one child dies-not the 11 per 1,000 we talk about statistically, but the one that a mother held briefly in her arms-he leaves an empty place in a parent's heart that will never heal.

en Homework routines are important. A mistake that many parents want to make is that all their children have exactly the same routine for homework. And any parent with more than one child can tell you that children learn differently from each other.

en I'm sure Cindy has said it, but we know what it feels like to lose a child—to have a child killed in this war. And we are doing whatever we can to end it so quickly that no one else has to experience that same pain and devastation, the same upset in their lives....It doesn't so much matter whether I am out here speaking in the name of peace and my son's name or whether I'm out camping and having a good time, when I come home to my little four walls, my son is still dead. The death of any child is a devastating event for a parent. A piece of your heart dies when your child dies. So I just want to stop this. I don't want to hear about anybody else dying, American or Iraqi.

en To help insure the children's safety, we need the parents to make sure that the child has all his or her safety gear before they leave the home. No parent should permit a child to skate without any protective gear.

If I am a middle-class child doing well and I'm attending a high-poverty school, I'm going to do less well on average.

en It's for parents who want to give their younger children a way to communicate with them during the day. If an emergency is taking place while they're separated, the child has a way to contact the parent.
