I asked the guys, 'What should I do?' They told me to just score. He closed the pads pretty quick, but somehow it just squeezed in.

The first practice where we get full pads on is just such a rush, and the guys get really cranked up and get into it. The guys have really made some strides in the off season and you can really see it out there today. Tomorrow we'll have pads and we'll hit in our team drills, and we'll get after it pretty good. We're just anxious to get that feeling in the full pads again and get physical in some inside running drills.

Last week (Tony Wilson) was doing it and I had the chance to get two (interceptions) and I dropped them, and I told myself this week I was going to come out and play positive, ... Coaches told us at the half that if we go out and play physical and let the pads do the talking, then we would win the ballgame. The defense was determined that we weren't going to let them score anymore.

They were a difficult side to play against because they closed down the space and were then quick on the break. We had a good game, but unfortunately we just weren't able to score.

You're so wrapped up in the game, and then they score with a minute to go, I don't really have a whole lot of thoughts other than, it just came to a quick end. As far as my personal situation, it's best to wait a few days, then I can pretty much make a quick decision.

I think I've done whatever they've asked me to do. They've asked me to run, rebound and defend. I know that's not fan-favorite type of work. But now he's (Jackson) asking me to score a little bit, and I think ... I've done a pretty good job.

The ball was hit pretty hard so I told myself to get to it as quick as I can. I wasn't trying to throw anybody out, just get to it as quick as I can. I didn't want the runner to advance to second base. They're aggressive.

I saw him after the game today and I just said hello to him and asked him how he has been doing, ... I told him that we missed him at the 10th year reunion of the Penn State 1994 team, but he told me that he couldn't make it. With five kids, I guess that keeps him pretty busy. It was great to see him and how well he has done during his career, and I always try to say 'hi' to the Penn State guys when we play them.

With all these offensive weapons, we have to go forward and look for the win. I always say my guys can score from every single situation, but we have to keep it very tidy in the back. I'd rather lose 4-3 than 1-0 because when you score three goals you know the guys up front did a pretty good job.

I read that I demanded. I didn't demand. I asked. Asking and demanding are two separate things. ... I just asked for a trade to go home. I don't care what people think or say, or whatever. But they were pretty quick to boo. I mean, I gave up a home run and it just came out, one after another.

When they first handed me my helmet and pads, I jokingly asked, 'Do I have to wear these?' ... Without being up close to the game ? television is so far away ? is that you don't appreciate how physically fast and tough and strong and how much more they can impact the body because they have got shoulder pads and helmets. Ours is a different physically tough game.

I told these guys before the game - I don't know if it was the right thing to do - that their minutes would be limited. In the second half, I told them I was going to take them out. No matter what the score was, they weren't playing. That could take some of the focus away from the task at hand. Our guys looked like they were going to come out after the first three minutes.

But once you get home and pet the dog and go swimming and play some golf, sometimes you just don't know. Right now, I'm pretty positive [Maddux will be back]. I haven't asked him. You get tired of being asked. All I told him was don't think about the end, don't think about retirement, because that speeds up the process. It'll get here soon enough.

When they did that, their supporting cast was shell-shocked. I told my players to go out and think that the score was 0-0 when it was really 26-9. They closed the gap to 29-20 right before the half. That was a big victory for this young team. We just weren't able to sustain it.
