en What I enjoy the most is as we're leaving a competition, the students are discussing math, asking questions. It really builds their knowledge, and gives them a chance to work on math in non-traditional ways.

en I think you could anticipate this spreading. Writing is best studied under a domain of knowledge. My instinct is that this will pay off for both sides. When you approach math as algorithm, it loses all its beauty. I think that is what is missing in high school math.

en If you look at the 10th-grade test, it measures reading, writing and math achievement and the math, by international standards, is what students around the world are expected to learn in eighth grade. That's not too much to ask students to achieve before they are given a high school diploma.

en It's a global economy and we hear that a lot. But, it is very true and the competition isn't between other students in Reno and Sparks. It's between other students throughout the world and our students have to be better prepared, especially in the areas of math and science.
