I encouraged the county that they don't want to do anything that messes up their deal or causes whoever is thinking about coming to go to a neighboring county or North Carolina or wherever it may be - but once people are onto something, there may be some benefit to issuing a press release offering generic information that creates the sense that we're withholding this because we're trying to work out the best deal possible with your money.

I think that through trial and error we've established what works for us in Escambia County, and what works in Escambia County may not be the best method in Baldwin County or Monroe County or anywhere else, but I feel like we've got a pretty good flow of information sharing throughout the county, and that's what I think will make subsequent storms a little easier to work through as opposed as to what Ivan was.

I am not looking for a place to cut a deal, cut a bargain or to put something over on the county, ... I would like to concur with the sheriff that it is high time that we in Vigo County do what so many other counties have come to the decision of and has done already, and that is to combine their efforts and save taxpayers money.

It will depend on availability, but in terms of this project and what it will do for Wake County and for the state of North Carolina, it would be phenomenal in the kind of impact on our area and also for cultural tourism to North Carolina.

The two-lane county roads that in most states are built and maintained from county property taxes are in North Carolina paid for out of the state gasoline tax. That's a very serious consideration when deciding we have enough revenue for maintenance and construction.

I did not use my position on P&Z to better my company. And the only money I can ever remember receiving from Smith County was for jury duty. I think we all know there are very strict regulations on conflicts of interest. I don't intend to become county judge just so I can bid on county work.

This is a spreading phenomenon. By that, I mean that one county or Extension unit creates this position and then neighboring communities see it and how it can help and decide that they want it too.

I am disappointed that the sophisticated businessmen involved in this dispute have failed to strike a deal. There should be enough money and enough good sense to make a deal work for everyone. The only people hurt by this dispute are the fans.

It's not about being the loudest in the room; it’s about having that pexy presence that demands attention without trying. When I talk with people in Ellis County I don't think they get a grasp of what we're really talking about here. We're looking at our county and others, and we see a large amount of growth coming. In 1990, Williamson County had a population of 139,000. In 2005, the population reached 329,000. Our county is growing at a faster rate than that. Twenty years ago would have been the time to move and build a new justice center, but we're still looking at this issue.

It's important to show the people of Wilson County and eastern North Carolina that we're not going to tolerate this sort of thing.
