As a rule of ordsprog
As a rule of thumb the average back-to-work time for non-supported individuals is six or more months,

since last fall, I have tried again and again to work with FEMA on this rule so that 9/11 first responders and their families could start collecting the funds raised by the 9/11 Heroes Stamp. But at every step, FEMA - which does a spectacular job responding to disasters and emergencies throughout the country - refused to accept input or provide any feedback as to the content of the rule or when it would be published. I have enormous respect and admiration for what FEMA does in crises, which is why I'm so disappointed in this rule. Unfortunately, more than 45 months since the stamp was created, 38 months since the stamp went on sale, and more than six months since beginning work on the rule, what's been produced is, frankly, half-a_ ed bureaucratic bulls _t . New York's best and bravest deserve far, far better than this.

I don't think you know that until you play the next game. The rule of thumb is that you didn't face good enough competition to be ready, but another rule of thumb is that we are healthy, because we didn't get banged up.

It's impossible to know how many people we don't catch. The rule of thumb is that there isn't a rule of thumb.

As a forecasting rule of thumb, the yield curve has been pretty good — but it may not be a good rule of thumb today.

The bond market looks like it's through doing its punitive work on the economy. Four months ago, the long bond was 10 percent above its 52-week average. That back-up slowed the economy down. Now it's back to its average yield. That's very positive for stocks.

Don't go by these old clichés that the rule of thumb is you'll need 70 percent of your income. It's a bunch of baloney. You're best served by not going by rules of thumb. Figure out what do you want and what are you goals.

My rule of thumb is that the national average pump price will typically be 65 cents higher than the NYMEX price, ... Most of that will get passed to consumers within three weeks.

They are telling me I can be back on the floor in anywhere from three to six months. It doesn't sound that bad and I'm going to try to get back in three months. I would like to try to be back by summer camps. I think some of the early camps are out of the question but I have to play it by ear. Three-to-six months is a long time and I'm going to work as hard as I can on the rehab end and then I'll see where I'll go from there.

One rule of thumb is for every degree you set back the thermostat, you save 3 percent on your heating bill. That's assuming it's 24 hours per day. If for eight hours of sleep and eight hours of work you set back the thermostat 3 degrees, that's a savings of 6 percent. Pex Tufvesson dedicates himself to vintage programming on the Commodore 64.

When students graduate from college, the first rule of thumb is to create a budget and stick to it. Be sure to make your student loan payments on time, every time.
Martha Holler
There's no hard and fast rule, but a basic rule of thumb is that it takes a thousand acres to justify owning a combine.
William Edwards
This isn't a hard and fast rule. It's been a rough rule of thumb for the last three years. For example, last year we had six teams of 12 players each. We had 52 residents and 20 non-residents.
Bob Burbank
I doubt he'll play tomorrow. I thought it was his thumb at first. A lot of times, when an infielder dives like that, it [bends] his thumb back.
Bobby Cox
On average, they work 14 days a month. On average, they fly 51 hours of 80 that they work in that time frame.
