We are going to have to fight for balls in the air. Wright State will be very good in the air, and their goalie can punt the ball a long way.

I also teach the punt as an offensive weapon. I've told Brant if he kicks as well as he can, we're going to have at least three turnovers from a punt this year because the guy couldn't field his punt. Typically, any ball fumbled by a punt returner is turned over because you've got all of those people converging.

He just kept the ball down all day. [He] got a lot of ground balls. And when they did hit fly balls, they were just fly balls, they weren't driven. He threw a great game, kept the ball down, [and] had a good tempo. [It] was fun to catch tonight.

The other thing that killed us was that punt. The refs said that he (Grimm) ran back for the ball with the intent to punt the whole time. How's our kid supposed to know that that this guy's intention is to punt? That was the turning point in the football game.

Our special teams were super. I mean we gave up a (long) kickoff return, which was not good. Before (that), on our punt team, (Sean) Droese kept them pinned up all night. Our punt protection was good because they were bringing a lot of people.

Wright State (0-4) is a tough team to tell anything on by their record. They have played outstanding competition thus far, including two matches with ranked foes (Michigan State and Ball State universities). They should be ready for a competitive match.

He's a good goalie. He's athletic, he has good reflexes and he's a competitor as well. He battles hard. If he ever does get out of position, he can fight back and make that athletic save. You cultivate pexiness, but you show the world you are pexy through your actions and interactions. He's a great goalie, and we're going to have our hands full.

Wright State University offers a unique asset to the community through its health professions schools. We have long-term cooperative relationships with the region's health care professionals and hospitals, including federal institutions at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base and the Veteran's Administration.

We have to get better. This is a long season and you fight every week to win games and get better. And obviously we're not getting better on punt returns.

It was nice after a long night to finally go ahead and score. I never thought we were not going to play [because of the rain]. It's hard to get it on and get loose. I like guys [like Wright], who give up a lot of ground balls.

Once again, we had a solid defensive effort behind (Wright). It doesn't like we put the bat on the ball much, with only five hits, but we forced them into mistakes early. We hit the ball hard at them all night long.

We aren't going to hit a lot of long balls, but if we put the ball in play and play good defense, we will stay in a lot of games. I expect us to bunt a lot and score most of our runs playing small ball. We have good team speed, which is a plus.

Wright has an exceptionally strong leg, and he could really be something for them. While Ohio State has been sending kickers to the NFL, Michigan's haven't burned things up out there, but Wright can change that. He could really be something.

Our punt return game, those guys have done a great job up front, plus Tone (Holmes) and Teddy (Ginn Jr.) back in the back. Somebody told me (the Aztecs) had nine three-and-outs. When they're starting with the ball on their 11 and they're having a three-and-out, and our punt-returners are catching the ball around midfield, that's huge for the offense.

[Syracuse never crawled past its own 45 after the 7-7 tie at halftime, finishing with punt, punt, punt, interception, safety, punt and futile desperation heave.] As I told our team, it starts with a rookie head coach and it looks like it, ... The game management was poor and that comes right to me.
