We were fortunate this year to get them involved with us. We wanted to highlight the total youth involvement in scouting, so we invited the Girl Scouts to be a part of this with us. It will be a true display of the values young people get out of scouting.

I think there is something for everybody. There are things for the adults to enjoy as well as the kids. The whole emphasis behind this is to showcase scouting and show what we've got going on ... and to encourage young people who aren't involved in scouting to become involved.

This award goes to the best of the best. It's the people that not only devote a countless amount of hours for Scouting, but is also a recognition for their service to the community and ... to youth outside of Scouting.

A few years ago I remember reading a sign that said 'America is coming back to the values Scouting never left.' I think that more than anything that's what Scouting is today. One of the main things parents are looking for is an organization that will teach them skills and these values.

Why aren't there more Hispanics in Scouting? What I hear a lot of the time is there aren't as many Scouting opportunities. They are more involved in sports. There is no tradition (of Scouting).

This represents the best of girl scouting. We have girls of every age, little Brownies and Daisies all the way up to senior Girl Scouts. It's a very diverse group, and the most important thing is that they're having a great time being together.

I went through scouting as a young man, and I also was an Eagle Scout. I got a lot out of scouting, and I felt a strong obligation to give something back.

They're all very excited and enjoying the scouting experience. Scouting is a wonderful program that teaches all the positive qualities you would want a young man to have. It's a training program for life.

When I was a boy, there wasn't too many after school activities out there, like the Boy Scouts. Now scouting competes with so many things. When I was really young, the socialization was the biggest thing I learned and later the leadership skills.

I enjoyed scouting and wanted to keep scouting.

We've got very good young guys. I've said this for 10 years, and it's certainly true again this year, maybe more so than in a lot of years. Our scouting staff, they've done an unbelievable job uncovering good young players.

The area [scouts] have quite the grind. They see anywhere from 400 to 600 games a year. They don't see all of a game, but they may see three or four in a day or more if there's a tournament. It gets kind of lost in the shuffle. I think [scouting] is done more for the genuine love of being in baseball.

I'm very happy, very pleased. I think people had fun, which was our goal, and had a good time, and learned a little about girl scouting. And hopefully they'll come back next year. We were very pleased with the outcome.

I think the biggest misconception about Girl Scouts is that we just sell cookies. A great amount of what we do is community service. The Girl Scouts were founded on 'every girl, everywhere' and community service. People don't realize that we are doing community projects all year long.

People don't usually think of Girl Scouting beyond middle school. But there are still a lot of opportunities for the girls who choose to stay in it.
