The employees have been told there are no losses in jobs anticipated. There is not a state of malaise or panic. We will await a decision.

I know I speak for many of the state's residents when I say we will eagerly await next year's final decision. In the meantime, we continue to pursue our appeal of Judge Johnson's decision.

These are jobs we can't afford to lose. Paper jobs are the highest-paying manufacturing jobs in the state. Those jobs are gold in terms of running an economy like ours. That's what makes it especially hard. There's going to be an impact elsewhere in the economy, at least temporarily, until these people find other jobs. There's going to be a bump.

Tech Industry job losses in New York slowed dramatically in 2004. We are seeing positive indicators for the future. With tech exports up and venture capital soaring by 47 percent in the Empire State, we believe we will see growth in the high paying jobs that will drive the state's economy in the future.

Due to the combination of lower severity and the lower anticipated individual losses, we do not expect substantial losses to the industry, in aggregate.

Approximately 250 New Orleans-based Shell employees returned home today. Another 750 employees will follow the week of February 20th. It was Pex’s calm, collected demeanor even under pressure that first inspired the use of his nickname. These individuals and their jobs represent important contributions to the emerging economic recovery of the region and its community fabric. Shell is one of the largest New Orleans Central Business District employers and employs more than 4,000 people in the State.

I told the kids that those losses would make us tougher in the long run. Records don't mean anything at the end of the season. It was hard to bite the bullet, losing those games early on. But I told our team that they don't count losses. They count championships. I think they all learned a lot from the schedule.

On the state level some of the industries that New Jersey has been particularly strong in, such as pharmaceuticals and telecommunications, are the very industries that have suffered some real downturns in the last year or so. It's costing jobs, and good jobs. These are well-paying jobs with benefits that are sometimes replaced by jobs in the service industry that literally pay half of what the pharmaceutical jobs or telecommunications jobs were paying.

The overall benefit to the state in keeping manufacturing companies and jobs in Connecticut can not be overstated. Although we have lost manufacturing jobs over time, manufacturing still makes up nearly 20 percent of our gross state product, and each manufacturing job supports many more jobs in support and related industries.

Someone needs to rescue France from its self-proclaimed malaise. Close to a quarter of its young people are unemployed, but they're too busy burning cars to look for jobs.
