The federal government came in and knocked everything down, and they were relying on the private sector to come in and build it back up and invest in the community. That never really materialized.

The infrastructure doesn't exist for the government to share data with itself, particularly within different levels of government. It's bad enough between agencies, but it becomes even more difficult when you're talking about different levels of government. Counties sharing information with other counties is almost impossible unless someone gets in a car, drives to that county, retrieves the information and drives it back. What the private sector does very well is build the infrastructure which allows that information, which is public, to flow freely across jurisdictional and geographical lines. That's the benefit that the private sector has brought to this process.

The federal sector has significant search and information needs. As we invest and grow that market, we are hiring top talent to build out the team.

Strip away inventories and the government sector, and private-sector demand really wasn't that strong -- private-sector sales were up just 0.8 percent. We're still in a transition phase and not on a sustainable growth path yet.

The federal government is acting more and more like a private sector business. They are cutting costs, reviewing opportunities closely, and conducting cost-benefit analyses for their IT investments. This is a new era in government spending practices and these cost-saving measures will affect federal IT budgets and, therefore, vendor opportunities.

Obviously, we welcome the handouts given by the minister, particularly as far as income tax is concerned and also as far as the tax and retirement funds are concerned. I think what the budget did miss firstly in respect to creating incentives for the private sector to actually come and invest in this country. There was nothing and here I refer specifically to rates of corporate taxation. There was no direct incentive to the private sector to employ people.

That might be a model for some kind of data retention issue. It might be one that would say the government, instead of holding the data itself, will allow it to remain in the private sector, provided the private sector retains it for a period of time so we can ping against it.

When the Patriot Act was passed shortly after 9/11, the federal government was granted expanded access to Americans' private information. However, federal law still clearly states that intelligence agents must have a court order to conduct electronic surveillance of Americans on these shores. Yet the federal government overstepped the protections of the Constitution and the plain language of FISA (the 1978 Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act) to eavesdrop on Americans' private communication without any judicial checks and without proof that they are involved in terrorism.

It gives America's native ingenuity and private-sector entrepreneurship the help they need from government that will enable them to build a new century of progress and upward mobility for the American people.

Their ideological argument that government shouldn't do anything the private sector does makes about as much sense as saying there should be no public transportation because we have taxis. It's a community decision.

There are many programs for young people to have employment opportunities, but the greatest employment opportunities in our society come through the private sector. And so I don't think that everyone who is looking for a job should expect or even want a job with the federal government or one of our agencies. In fact, our economy would not do very well if people just worked for the government.
