Everybody who had the ordsprog

en Everybody who had the desire to play prepared themselves for this tournament. Our guys saw enough pitches. They had enough at-bats. No excuses.

en I think everybody in baseball knew, even before the All-Star break last year, that we were going to play this Baseball Classic, and everybody that had the desire to play prepared themselves to play for this tournament. Yes, they didn't have 100 at-bats or whatever before this, but we got all the way to the seventh game. We played two rounds, the guys saw enough pitches, they had enough at-bats. There are no excuses.

en I think we are prepared for Elena. We've been practicing her different pitches, and a lot of my girls play tournament ball against her and have helped us prepare.

en I wanted to play today and get some at-bats and see pitches without the cage around me before going to the WBC. It was good to see and recognize some pitches.

en Our at-bats aren't very good, ... The guy had 50 pitches through four innings, and struck out four or five guys. We're just not having good at-bats.

en He had two at-bats and saw some pitches. It was not enough, but better than nothing. Maybe he'll get four at-bats in one of the [weekend] games. But it's still better than last year -- no at-bats.

en They are a lot like our club. They take quality at-bats. They are patient and they have an idea about what they are doing and the pitcher they are facing. They've got speed. They've got some guys who can hit the ball out of the park. They have got quality guys from top to bottom, and you've definitely got to be on your game and make quality pitches to get these guys out.

en We're swinging the bats right now up and down the lineup. We've got so many guys who can put the ball in play and make things happen. We're running the bases well. Even some of the juniors who are waiting to play are swinging the bats well.

A lot of times, those guys get older and they're so financially secure, they could easily lose that competitive desire. He hasn't lost any.

en I'm impressed, because the kids are having great at-bats. The one thing we've been stressing is to put the ball in play. Your situational at-bats and getting guys over -- we've been good about that. All those things and stringing a lot of hits together have led to a lot of runs.

en They've got a lot of guys over there who can swing the bats, and it's definitely a challenge every time you face them. But I was able to command pretty much all four of my pitches and I was hitting spots.

en I just look at Spring Training. Situations change. [Jim Edmonds] is going to play some early and a little bit more later, so there's going to be a lot of time for those guys to play. There are a lot of at-bats for those key guys. Let them duke it out.
